j - Yes, we buy in bulk for the truck and spreader you see in the picture. We go through roughly 2- 3 tons per storm. We also keep a few pallets of salt for the residential driveways we do, that goes through our Fisher tailgate spreader. With this past week's temperatures, we had to apply salt right after we finished plowing and come back the following morning and apply another round of salt. The Town house site we have has 110 concrete driveways and about a mile of concrete sidewalks, we go through 30- 50 bags of calcium just for that one site! I hate concrete, so much denser than asphalt. Once the snow is compressed to the concrete (customers driving on the snow), you almost need a jack hammer to break lose the snow!!! It's part of snow business!

Forgot about these pictures, this was last winter and the truck is Seth's 3rd Gen. He now has a 4th Gen but I'm sure it will plow just as much snow...

Big storm, sticky snow....

Snowbanks...

I didn't notice in the pictures Mike, what is he using for a spreader? We are on our 3rd season with a SaltDogg TGS06 10 cu.ft tailgate spreader on the 04.5. So far so good. We had a Meyer salt spreader before that and we were constantly going through parts. This one was on the suggestion of our local snow equipment dealer and we couldn't be happier. He is also the one that turned us on to the Hiniker plow that we are currently using. I think we are on our 6th or 7th season with it now and it has been rock solid.

No spreader, just the plow. 9' Fisher Minute Mount II.

Fisher is #1 up here, tough plows....but not as tough as they were 20 years ago but nothing is...

When you had regular valve bodies and belt driven hydraulic pumps things were simple and reliable. Now with the overlay harnesses and pumps combined with lift cylinders it adds a couple more layers of complications....

Funny, I don't think there is even a Fisher dealer within 50 miles of here now. This has been traditionally a Meyer area. But, this Hinikier dealer went from just a small business to an absolutely huge operation in the last 10-15 years. I would say that locally, they are selling 3 Hiniker units for every 1 Meyer at this point. At first I thought it was just hype until I purchased one. They really are that good. The only complaint that I have is that they are nearly impossible to mount. They claim to be a quick mount plow. Well, it takes the minimum of 2 people and sometimes a loader. We are to the point now that it just stays on the truck permanently since it is a dedicated plow truck.

The best move Hineker made was to develope their C plow. Cutting edge top and bottom. Roll the mold board forward ,from inside the cab and back blade from doors and other obstacles. It's far superior to adding a back blade behind the primary cutting edge.

I've watched their C plow in action and it really is a great design. Anyone doing properties that required tight access or a lot of work right against a building should definitely take a look at them.

Being an Arizonian for the last 41 years, we were up in Minot when it snowed and yes it was cold. I had that salt crap all over my truck. I was ready to freak out knowing what that stuff causes. I was told they use Beet juice and the roads will be a red color. I did not see any red roads but I did see the white crap all over the truck and wheel wells. That was the first time the truck was driven in that climate and I hope the last but you never know. I did not take any pictures as that would just **** me off when ever I saw it.

Bumper off of a 2005 from the salt belt. You warm weather people just need to be thankful for where you live.
