Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel system question

I just bought an early '98 12 valve Dodge. Does anyone know how to disable the automatic door lock feature and the horn chirp activated by the remote? I was able to disable both features in my '06 using instructions in the manual, but the '98 manual says this is a dealer controlled change. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never found a hack for that since I've owned my 98. 5. I don't mind either features though I would always like to have the ability to control the stuff that I own. The mindset of some corporations is unbelievable. Why shouldn't the truck owner be able to switch the locks or horn at will? I think it became user controlled a few years later. Still takes cash to get mine switched at the dealer if I wanted to change it.

My '06 manual gives instructions on cancelling these features, which I did. I'm sure there is a simple process to cancel the earlier ones. They are much more mechanical.

Well, if you or anyone else finds a way to do it w/o the dealer I'd like to know how to do it. I've been told it's a 'dealer only' adjustment.

It is a dealer fix ,I lucked out as mine came from factory both horn and locks disabled.

You were lucky. Actually my manual says all trucks CAME from the factory with those functions disabled. Apparently the dealers set them. So I guess the dealer has to disable them. I was hoping someone might work at a dealership and tell us how to do it.

It takes the same machine that Dodge only has that does flash ecm upgrades/updates. Maybe this would be something Marco could incorporate into a Smarty like the speedo adjust. But I think updates to 2nd gen Smarty's are a thing of the past too.
