Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Disabled wastegate test

Was towing 9000lbs Saturday and decided to take the turnbuckle off the waste-gate and see what kind of difference the extra boost made. As before it maxed out at 21 lbs of boost but pulling a hill it would easily rise to a 1300 degree egt and still be climbing. When I returned with the waste-gate turnbuckled it maxed out at 36 lbs of boost and never went above 1100 degrees. The power increase is real seat of the pants difference. Thought this might be of interest to some. DW

Be cautious though, I did the same thing as you and the turbo spun itself to its grave within 1 year, cant quite handle those rpm's. I have my new one set to waste at 32 psi for safety.

Max boost

Kevin: Use to max at 30 -31 pounds until the 4" exhaust was put on in April. Only hits 36 under full power and that doesn't happen much. Put the turn-buckle on 14 months ago and 29,000 miles. Never thought it would toast the turbo with normal use. Thanks for the info, I'll be more carefull now. Love the wide open spaces of Wyoming!DW
