Have been having problems starting, sometimes had to turn key on three or four times before the starter would energize. I ordered the solenoid rebuild kit from Geno's today but as luck would have it, I couldnt shut my truck off. I had to disconnect both battery ground cables to get the diesel to shut down. I tried reconnecting and everytime I touched the negative cable to the post it would energize the starter. Luckily, the truck quit in front of my house but I am now without the use of it. Will the solenoid kit correct this problem or am I faced with a bad starter?

I would say the contacts in the solenoid have welded themselves together. kit should fix the problem.

Thanks FourBarR, I hope that is all there is to it. I plan to pull the starter at first light.
