You see TDR #88 is going down in history as "The Worst Issue Ever!" specifically to it's well timed "Exhaust Note" article By Kevin Cameron.

First off if you don't know anything about the "forgotten art" of precups and IDI diesel engines perhaps you shouldn't write about it. Apparently it's still a mystery to you. #@$%! Pickup a book on IDI design principals and learn something before you drop those inaccuracies on a diesel crowd again. The precup's specific existence is to swirl and mix the burning fuel in the combustion chamber above the piston to burn all of it with relatively low injection pressures and get high MPG. A burning air/fuel charge, well, there isn't concern for 'a rapid heat loss' as the blowtorch burning charge is what is heating up the precup insert more than anything else. The air fuel charge is on fire so it isn't loosing heat where a restriction is required to keep it burning. For starting you either spin the engine fast and long enough to overcome the heat loss to cold parts, use either, or glow plugs. About the timing for the "Rolling Coal" portion of the article. You just were not clear enough about "flamboyant waste" targeting electric cars. It's a crime now! I do not feel nostalgia or have any warm fuzzy feelings about belching smoke from a diesel like the article does. I would rather have the power without smoke. I have memories of a 6.2 NA boat anchor that ran out of power and smoked. Regardless the coal rolling era is over. We don't need the target painted on our backs anymore. (My Hot Rod 6.2 large turbo truck passes emissions and gets out of it's own way thus making better memories today without excessive smoke.)

I suggest you address what needs to be addressed because overlooking it WILL get the government involved and get you with the program whether you like it or not! The first article referenced below is from 2014 so no excuses! Just after TDR 88 is out this month: May 14, 2015 New Jersey has enacted a law that bans coal rolling. Fines they are asking for can be up to $5,000.00. This isn't a speeding ticket it's on par with DWI costs. We are lucky that it's not being called a Hate Crime.

Never mind The USA has stricter Diesel emission laws than the European Union, ULSD, DPF, DEF, and other emissions systems on diesel engines starting in 2007. Even the Oldsmobile 5.7 "the original Coal Roller" was later banned for sale in California due to it's visible emissions before the engines were finally axed. We have watched countless YouTube video's of deleted trucks rolling coal on the dyno etc. bring the EPA down hard on companies making tuners. So intentional Coal Rolling has come to the further attention of lawmakers and is putting a bigger target on the back of diesel engine owners. No, not just the small world of Diesel pickups, but OTR 18 wheelers, construction equipment, farmers, and frankly ANYTHING with a diesel engine.

This emission equipment is troublesome, costs MPG, increases fuel cost for ULSD, and otherwise costs diesel owners money. :mad:

And while we are on TDR 88 it looks like the "Replace worm gear clamps on the heater hose with new hose and constant tension spring clamps" is yet again overlooked for the heater hose leak. The "Air Conditioner in Winter" describes fixing two coolant leaks. The second leak fix of tightening the heater hose worm gear clamps is a temporary fix as the known fix is replace these with spring clamps. Hose P/N 4939438 Clamps P/N 4930327
