one option is to lengthen the compensating rod on the rear axle (if your 97 has it). also, cleaning out the brake drums makes a big difference, especially if you've had a slight seal leak (real small). readjusting the "self" adjusters is almost necessary after a while.

I'm in the same boat so to speak. The brakes just suck!! I posted a few days back asking for opinons on EGR front pads, ss lines and bigger wheel cylinders or EGR front pads, ss lines and rear disk conversion. Not many people had any opinons on which one would be a better way to go especially hauling a cab over camper and trailer in mountains.

The previous comment was out of tune (like my truck) with you guys. Sorry, I was trying to ask someone back up the thread somewhere about their solution to the brake issue.

guys I don't mean to sound like a "donkey" here... ... . but are any of you running Exhaust brakes? The money your spending on brakes could pay for 1-exhaust brake which is said to save up to 50% of life on your service brakes.

complete EGR fronts. Calipers, rotors, pads, ss lines. Installed for over 3 yrs and am about to replace the pads. Have e brake and it is almost always on, but most of my driving is thru town back and forth to work so I use the service brakes alot. If hard braking feels like the rears aren't working it is way past time for manual adjustment. If I wait that long it's over 30 clicks to get shoes close to drum. The self adjusters don't work at all.

97 doesn't have the load sensing valve on the rear diff
