How many miles do you have on your front brake pads before you had to replace them?

I got 70,000 on my orginal set. I have a PacBrake which I feel saved my brakes from wearing out prematurly. I also tow a 26' 5er as well. My brother has a 2001 3500, and he pulls a 3 car tow trailer. He has no exhaust brake and his first set of brakes only lasted 15,000 miles.

Brake life

I think what you have seen both with and without exhaust brakes is pretty true to life. I is about the same as I have experienced for brake pad mileage with and without.

w/o ex brake:::replaced front pads @ 40k, they were all worn even and about 60% worn when replaced. Installed carbon metalic pads from NAPA.

I changed my front pads at 97K and they could have easily gone to 110K. I had some pads given to me a year ealier and desided to give them a try. The guy that gave them to me kept asking me how I like them. Now there on and I can say this they stop better but won't last as long as I got out of the OE pads. They are a carbon fiber/Titanium pad. I think the same brand sold by JC Whitney.

Got 110K on the factory set. Still had lots of miles left. Second set has 90K on them and this time I will leave them in until they are fully used up. This is on a 96 5sp.

Manuals trans trucks should get double the mileage over Auto trucks.

Most of the miles are from hotshoting pulling 2x stocktrailers.

Pulling trailers should not neccessarily mean faster brake wear. Use the trailer brakes before the trucks.

I have no Exhaust brake by the way.

Lousy disk brake life

The 97' 5-speed that is pampered better than my wife gets front pads about every 15k-20k miles. Rear brakes are adjusted by well known drag racing guru Kenny Voight of Bridgeport,Ct and also advised me to replace front calipers and frame to caliper hoses and still needs pads same as before. I even use the clutch to assist in stopping. The 5. 9 has original clutch at 162k.

83k on original set and still in good shape. I have a Pacbrake and tow a large 5th. whl.

The rear shoes also are original and have many more miles left in them.

My '98 only has 87K on the originals, no ex brake (darn money thing again!), they still have 1/4 to 3/8 inch left. The rears don't do much either, I had an axle seal let go and oil soaked one side completely. I've been meaning to change those out since around 50K...

1st set OEM went 33k, 2nd set OEM went 32k. Just put on a set of the Carbomet that Sam Peterson sells. I'll see how these do. Doing about 60% in town mileage.

113,000 miles on the original brakes. Had to replace them during an inspection. Same rotors and calipers. Auto transmission, mostly commuting and some towing of a boat.
