Just thought I would let everyone know that I finally got the rear brakes on my truck changed over to disc brakes. They are very nice. It took me a bit longer than expected, but at least it is done. I think it is a worthwhile conversion, even for the cost. I can't see any dramatic differences, but that is because the rear pads are not yet broke in. It gets better with each brake application. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them.

Did the pedal come up firm with the addition of the check valve. I know a lot of people had complained of bad pedal.

Was the old bearing I gave you the same as the one your rear used?

You leave the ABS valve in?

Philip,

The old bearing was exactly what I needed. I will post the part numbers as soon as I can for future reference. I did leave the ABS valve in for now. I had a bit of a time adjusting the parking brake levers. They are kind of a PIA. I think I still have a very small amount of air in the lines, but I will tackle that tomorrow when I rotate the tires. I also have to replace one wheel stud as it stretched out on me. The pedal is nice and consistently firm. But like I said, I just want to make sure there is no air in the calipers. It sure is easy to see the rear seals now. It will be easy to tell if they ever start leaking again.

BTW, I found a nice $2. 00 tool for installing speedi-sleeves. I went to a hardware and bought a piece of PVC pipe adaptor. It is made to slide over a 3" pipe on one end, and is threaded on the other end to screw a cap on. It fits the speedi-sleeve lip perfectly. I just used a really small ball peen hammer to drive them on.

Have you done much else to your truck?

Couldn't stay inside on such a nice day

It was too nice to stay inside today, so I went ahead and rotated the tires and rebled the rear calipers. Now I have some real brakes! The pedal is firmer than it has every been in the past 40K miles. I can't wait until the pads are fully broke in. It will just barely chirp the rear tires under a hard stop. The rear ABS is still working even thought the dumb lights are on. I really think that you need to put a residual pressure valve in the line as to keep the rear calipers from "bleeding" down. I think it gives you a firm pedal every time you hit the brakes and you don't have to "pump" them as others have complained about. Now for the PDR turbo, DTT trans, diff locks, and POD injectors . . . Doh!!! The wife is reading this, I had better quit while I am still alive. :D :D

ooppppsss your in trouble now. LOL

I have everything but one seal that goes into the upper kingpin. So I'll start putting it back together tomorrow. This will give me enough time to get a friend to measure up the plastic bushings for me. I have been doing some research on brass and bronze for use in the upper bushings. I don't like the plastic used in the original setup. I need to call a place Monday morning and get a price on 2 1/4" brass rod I have picked out to try and see if it holds up better than plastic does.
