While towing 7000 lbs. through ID, MT, WY, and SD this summer I always had to turn the cruise control off while climbing grades to keep my EGT(pre-turbo) from going overtemp. My max boost with the banks stinger-plus system is 21 psi. Towing this load netted 11-14 mpg.
More power would always be nice. But why do any fuel increases if I can't keep the temps down. I have cut holes in the air cleaner box with a hole saw. My exhaust is the banks 3. 5 inch. I currenty run at 70mph on the freeway. Faster than that seems to feel like I am pushing it. EGTs run around 650 with about 6 lbs boost, running empty.
I am thinking, can I do any harm by disconnecting the wastegate on the turbo?? More air equals cooler temps, Right!
I am going to take a trip this weekend from Boise through Vale to Ironside towing 16' trailer w/ a few ATVs. Going to give it a try.
