fuse??

You are correct there is no easy removable fuse for the heater grids!! The best thing to do is remove the connectors from the battery cables. The feed wires to the solenoids run to PDC then to the pcm and it controls the run time. I heard and seen about the oil switch but if it was me and I don’t mean to step on anyone’s shoes but it is more quicker to remove the connectors from the battery than more wires and concerns to go wrong later. It takes me 30 seconds to remove them and hook them back up. It does not set codes or change engine data. I have been doing this for sometime now with complete success. I have looked at the engine data with no concerns or seeing any effects from it.

Are the solenoid feeds on both batteries? I haven't even popped the hood to look yet. Are they the only wires going to the battery?

Checked this morning.

There is no relay in the power distirbution box to disconnect the heater grid from cycleing.

I deleted that one out of my previous post.

Tomscreek,

You could but you would have to use heavy wire and switch, how many amp I do not know. Also you would want to put a fuse in line in case of a shorted out wire.

Seems like a lot of work for little benefit when there are simplier ways of doing it but your idea is a good one.

A switch is no big deal if you are controlling the trigger wires to the grid solenoid relays rather than the main power feed. Small wire and a small low amp switch will do. It must be a double pole switch though, one leg for each relay.

when you take your extra battery out you can just take the the cable off that runs across the radiator and zip tie the negative cable on the passenger side or just unbolt it.
