BRAKE SALVATION!

Given that I am a near daily participant in the San Mateo Bridge 10K-grudge race and given that I invoke Manhattan right of way rules, I think the ’01 will soon be in need of new breaks. Does any one make a 4-wheel disk after market upgrade? The next best thing might be high guality after market replacement parts. What do you guys have to say?

JES,

Your truck could have 4-wheel disk brakes. If it does, yer all set. If it doesn't, then yer in the same boat as me. A rear axle disk brake conversion will break the bank!

Probably the best plan of action would be to upgrade the transmission and torque converter so there is more hold-back while decelerating. There is lots of information to search in the archives about this, or just browse for topics to do with transmissions. Look for DTT (diesel Transmission Technologies) also.

Good luck in the Rush-hour Grand Prix!

Disk/Drums

Thanks for the input Tommy. I should have noted in the original post that I have the Disk/ Drum Brake set up. Who makes the best replacement parts for this setup? I Love the ' 01 it is still dead stock and drives nothing like my friends older DC/auto's.

Grand Prix my tookus. This is more like 10 1/8th mile drags followed by a 10K sprint event. Come on guys help me out here I don't want to go broke when my brakes break. I know some of you 10. 000mi. a month @14ton hallers are doing brake jobs on a regular basis. Say , what is "normal brake life" for these DTC rigs given the heavy front loading on them?

As far as rear upgrades, I did one on my 88 K5 Blazer. I got a disc brake kit from TSM. Although I don't really recall the site right now, i'm sure a search will net this information. Also, I thought about getting the backing plates (calipers bolt onto) for one of the dodges with disc brakes ( I don't think it was an option in 94). After getting the backing plates from dodge, go to your local parts store and get the calipers & rotors. I don't know if you would have to worry about mastercyl. or not, and there is also the proportion valve that could cause a little problem.

That was what I was thinking, but as of yet, have not looked any further into the issue.

Best of luck,

Corey
