This makes no sense to me. I filled my truck up with fuel and drove until the truck ran out of fuel. The odometer read 685 miles. When I filled up the DTE only reads 430 miles. Why is this.

supposedly the DTE figure will read 0 miles to go when there is 8% left in the tank. Not positive on the number but its close. The DTE figure will also change as your driving changes so if you look while heavy on the gas then its lower.

Probably a combination of the two is cause such a wide variance. Pretty much everyone says to disregard anything the computer says.

Zues: Did you take the time to trickle in the rest of the fuel after the pump shut off? That is the only way to get an accurate and consistent fuel mileage reading. When fueling my 04. 5, the pump shuts off with 6+ gallons left to go. Takes me about 20 minutes overall to fuel... . bigger pain than the Ford twin tanks. I always reset the mpg on the overhead and when I fill and do the math, the overhead is about 0. 5 mpg low... which is close enough in my book.

If you're running a fueling box, the DTE will no longer be accurate. The EZ fools the computer and makes the mileage and DTE both inaccurate. However -- I ran mine dry on a similar test. I was going for longevity so I kept it right at 69mph for 823 miles before I ran dry. If I recall correctly, the DTA was a couple hundred off, but I put blame on the EZ being on level 5.

Fuel consumptiom parameters reside in memory ! A hard reset of the ecm may reset them , pulling the battery leads, may give you a differant answer/reading... ... ... ... ... .
