Well, I guess there was a reason after all why I never cared for those gals. I'll take the "old style" country any day over the current version. Oh well.

Do what you want, but

I have never another persons political veiw cloud my judgement. And have never stopped listening to a musician because of his political opinion. (three quarters of them have wierd opinions) I would be stuck listening to Yanni or even worse Charlie Daniels. I will not stop now, as usual some on this site can rant, rave, and boycott whomever you like. I will still be trying to keep my mind open and gather all the information I can from both camps before making a decision on who is right or wrong. I have never really cared for the Dixie Chicks music, but recognize their talent. As usual nobody else is allowed a opinion different than the President.

Maines further stated, "I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U. S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of

view. "

A lot of people feel this way. You may have to turn off the rest of the world to get rid of it. :D

Apology Offered

Angry fans and radio stations appear to have rapidly clipped Dixie Chick Natalie Maines' antiwar feathers. The country singer apologized Friday evening for saying her band is ''ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas'' -- comments that prompted furious online posts and phone calls from listeners, and boycotts from some country stations. ''I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful,'' Maines said in a statement released by her publicist. ''I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. ''

We have

the right to speak freely, and the right to not patronize those whom we detest. Hurt them where it counts: funny how those who work the least for their wealth have the poorest judgement.

No Chicks in my cd library!

Ron

I can't take it anymore I must reply.

I am not a Dixie Chicks fan I like Terri Clark, George Strait and Alabama.

But in my view the freedom of speech is to allow somebody to say the thing that you are most opposed to and detest to the deepest parts of your soul.

When these 'stars' say something it is thier opinion if it is something you agree with go buy thier CD, book, or see thier movie. If you disagree Don't buy what they are selling.

I think that it is great to hear dissenting opinions, it may make you change your mind or it may just re-inforce your original thoughts and views.

I love to listen to Brady, Feinstien, Schumer and Boxer, everytime I hear them i get #issed off so much I go buy a gun just because!

See they re-inforce my views I already have that I don't like them.

Alright - I gotta ask - if not supporting the President is Anti-American, what nationality do you suppose all those people who detest President Clinton to this day are? It is the essence of our freedom that we have the right to be against our government, our President, our policies.
It's was not about nationality with Clinton, it was about morals or lack thereof. And it is not "the essense of our fredom" that we have the right to be against our goverment, we have the right to disagree with our goverment but if you are against our goverment, you need to find some other country to claim as home. bg

CF, Next thing you will say is that Hanoi Jane was an American Patriot during the Vietnam War, and she was just exercising he rights as an American.

Washed up Hillbilly's?? I think country music is lacking in talent these days, except for a few. In Houston, there is no better station than 97. 1, and they didnt play any Dixie Chick stuff before that comment.

I don't really listen to country music. I mute CMT and watch the fine women folk.

Is this still considered a form of protest?

Hanoi Jane

No, Hanoi Jane was a joke. A treasonous joke, but still a joke.

There is a big difference between making a statement on stage and going to a country we ARE at war with, making a statement on their radio station asking American troops to surrender. I was there and heard her message, I can tell you first hand all the GIs over there laughed at it.

In my opinion there isn't a commercial radio station out there worth anything. No taste radio with loud DJs and even more obnoxious commercials than the boob tube. No taste in music and play lists that play the same thing over and over again. And then comes the morning shows, evening shows, with DJs that actually think they are interesting, laughing at their own jokes. And don't get me started on right/left wing talk shows. They are too busy taking the opposing party members out of text and turning Americans against each other, striving for the almighty rating!

Give me PBS and some pimply faced college kid playing music he likes, new groups, unheard music, something not the norm, and something no one has payed the station to play. There are no banned music lists there. Banning music, is kind of like book burning to me.

There have been several artists that have voiced their opinion/political preference on stage. Some I have and will listen to and some I really don't care for their music. It has nothing to do with their opinion/political preference, it has to do with my taste or their lack of talent. :D

It is a common misconception of many uninformed, or blatantly deceitful people, that the current President of the U. S. was so elected, and that he did not receive the majority of the popular vote. Such however, is false information...
Your sources are wrong, it's public information for all to see that Bush lost the popular vote by over 500,000 http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0876793.html Historians are quick to note that every president who has won by an extremely narrow majority has only maintained the presidency for one term.

I'm glad it worked out this way, one term George will probably be rated one of the worst presidents in history but Gore would have been worse.

As far country music goes you'll never see me move faster than to turn that crap off. Seems all they can sing about is how bad their life is, it should have been called the blues but the name was already taken.

illflem, whadiya git ...

when you play a country music lp backwards?

Ya git yer dog back, house back, woman back, beer . . . . :D

I listen to country pretty consistently, mostly for background music when in the truck while plowing.

Why do stars such as the Dixie Chicks and movie stars think that we care about their thoughts on things of this nature?

Makes me mad because their current single "Travlin Soldier" was written by one of my favorite song writters, Bruck Robison, and was at #2 last week, as was fully known that it was going to #1 this week, before they got banned on MOST country stations. This means that Bruce wont' get his #1!

Do they really think they care about their thoughts?

Just had to vent yall, sorry,

Andrew

I've never heard any of the Dixie Chicks' "music". I don't listen to what's commonly referred to as "Country & Western" because it isn't. What I've seen is, with a few (very few) exceptions is that a person is a "star" as long as they are young, good-looking and fresh. The first time any one of the three prerequisites falter, that "star" is finished.

I guess I go against the grain here in TDR-Land. I usually listen to Christian Radio stations with wonderful Biblical teachings and great praise songs.
