Can you hear me now???

I'm back!

Here's a well written letter concerning the Dixie Chick incident

An open letter to the Dixie Chicks:

Earlier this week, while performing in London, you stated that you were

ashamed that our President is from your home state. I wonder if you

realized how many Americans would be listening.

This American was listening. This Texan is ashamed that you come from my

state. I serve my country as an officer in the United States Navy.

Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off carriers around the world, executing

the missions that preserve the very freedom you claim to exercise. I have

proudly fought for my country in the skies over Kosovo, Iraq and

Afghanistan without regret. Though I may! disagree wholeheartedly with your

comments, I will defend to the death your right to say them, in America.

But for you to travel to a foreign land and publicly criticize our

Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would you have so willingly made

those comments while performing for a patriotic, flag-waving crowd of

Texans in Lubbock? I would imagine not.

How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and

patriotism while criticizing their Commander in Chief abroad, even while

they prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of speech.

Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do not

try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only because

you care about innocent lives.

Never once in our history have we committed troops to war for the

purpose of taking innocent lives. We do it to protect innocent lives, even

yours. If the world leaders of the late 1930's had the vision and courage

of our present Commander in Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused the

death of millions in WWII would have never had the opportunity to harm a

soul. The potential loss of millions of lives in the future at the hands of

today's evil men necessitate action.

In a separate correspondence, I am returning to you each and every Dixie

Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever purchased. Never again will I allow

my funds to support your behavior. All you have done is to add your name to

a growing list of American "Celebrities" who have failed to realize that

they have obtained their successes on the backs of the American blue-collar

workers such as our servicemen and women.

To Natalie Maines: This Texan - this American will continue to risk his

life to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?

That made me wonder also about the profiting a song about an american soldier?

Remember he is the commander and chief. To me that would make him part of the military also. So when they slammed the president. They also slammed the military.

Well said Pit Bull. We don't need this kind of nonsense! Everyone needs to spread the word about these kinds of incidents. Hit them were it hurts them the worst by blackballing them (not attending their shows) and stopping their income (not buying their "music")! It's not real country music anyhow, just a bunch of screeching. Who needs their kind of crap.

I think it gets classified as "country rock. " Basically they don't have a category for that type of music, so that's what they came up with. IMO, they need to just disappear, along with some other "country" singers that also sing pop/rock at the same time... and put it all on the same album. Being a music person myself (everything from performing to recording/mastering), some of this stuff, like Gene said, is crap.

Post Deleted

I deleted the post. It didn't seem to add any content and it was offensive. Rather than edit it - which oftentimes brings on an onslaught of distraught e-mail - I simply deleted it. I did not "warn" you or provide any strikes; the offense did not seem that significant.

For the record, I support your stance 100%; I will never purchase any CDs, etc. by the Dixie Chicks as well.

I'm sorry if you disagree that it could have been offensive.

Feel free to e-mail me at rpatton@ix.netcom.com.

The only way that entertainers will learn that their job is to entertain and not be politicians is at the bank. Regretably, sending them back their CD's or leaving a concert does not do that, they already have your money.

Just remember all of them in the future.

Just my own opinion.

I agree, if you want to see a movie wait until it is at the video store in the 85 cent rental or better yet wait until it is on network TV. Don't buy their CD's if you like their music listen to it on the radio. That way you get what you want and they don't. Generally that is the way I do it most of the time anyway so I won't make much of an impact :(

If

If you guys knew the political ties of 85% of the musicians out there, you would only be listening to one or two artists, thats all that would be left... ... :D And most likely they would be the NO talent type. But as long as they think the same as you, they have to be good huh?:D

CF, . Is there any stance that you will not take, that will not offend the majority of decent people? You ARE the future of the Democratic party, and I am glad for that.

Fox sure has a way with the news, most other sources said a few dozen of 12,000 people attending left the concert and that they received three standing ovations.

Most other sources? And those would be NPR, PBS & CNN, no doubt!
