I just finished up shooting a series of how to videos (auto repair and maintenance) for a friend here at our shop. We were discussing possibly putting together some other videos (for Dodge Rams and the Cummins) if there was enough interest. Topics could range from easy stuff for newbies (ie: oil changes, maintenance, minor adjustments),all the way up to major repairs and modifications for the more advanced (ie:ball joints, gear changes,,clutches,BOMBing and fuel pump adjustments). we could even do requests for a certain job,if required. It would be handy to have for those folks who have the basic knowledge and tools, just need some better info and guidance, and would really like to "see" if they can do it.

We have a great selection of trucks here (just no 3rd Gens yet) to work on. Please post your thoughts, ideas or suggestions here.

Sounds like a good Idea.

First Routine maintenance oil, gas, air filters, what to lube and what to check for every 5, 10, 15 and 20 K

Second How to do brake on drum and disc.

Third Steering components how to adjust and replace and upgrades

Fourth How to adjust valves and fuel pumps

Fifth BOMB

I agree with gray ghost. That would be good stuff. Injection pump timing, fuel plate installation and adjustment, starwheel adjustment, GSK.

Outstanding idea. I'd be willing to purchase that kind of video. Maybe some of the things Evan Beck does in electronics would be good on video, too.

Seeing that I was born "mechanically handicapped" those videos would be a great help for me and even better if you could include a list of tools to do the maintenance and repairs for each job.

Good suggestions so far, keep em coming.

Bigbadblue - Yes,tool lists as well as parts required would be laid out at the beginning of the tape.

The stuff thats not in the books comes to mind first, like gauges, fuel plates, governor spring kits and then all the other stuff mentioned would be a big help also.

More ideas...

transmission oil & filter replacement & band adjustment, drum & disk brakes, lift pump, aux. pusher lift pump, gauge & sensor installation. Put me on your list. I'll pay good money to avoid getting ripped by the dealer.

also add

- valve adjustment

- differential service

Divide perhaps into several categories;

1. Easy routine maintenance

2. Upgrades

3. Overhals - NOT ENGINE - suspension, brakes

4. Optional - do if 1,2 & 3 pay off.

Sorry,I've been kinda busy lately,my wife and I just had our 5th child.

I am still working on putting something together though. Hardest part is making it cost effective. I'm not looking to make anything on them, but the people I would need to help in the production do. I think at this point it would cost to much to produce just a few.

I'm trying to find some people who are willing to donate some time, and equipment,so we can do this pretty much at bare cost.

I will keep you posted.

good idea

thats a great idea. U may even want to illicit the help of the membership with the use of their trucks, ie: doing a video on valve adjustment, "who needs one. " Then do the maintenace on the members truck ( labor free) and they get the job done and you get the tape session. Plus the member actually gets the first hand and hands on experience for the future. I know I learn better by seeing instead of being told how to do something.

At any rate I would be willing to buy the tapes as it is a great idea. Keep us posted.

I would buy some, as long as it does'nt take away from the bloody knuckle or two occasionaly. I ussualy get a treat from the kitchen when I show signs of duress, just a ploy for grub.

Super Idea!! I would buy these in a heart beat. Always looking for a way to get some professional help and tips. Maybe you could do a tape on realistic fake knuckle injuries for AKDrifter. Also the rest of us could use that tactics also to gain a little simpathy! :{

Put me on your list too!!!!

Scott

I always figured this was an opportunity for someone. I will be interestested if they are comphrehensive and sufficient in quality.
