Well, took out the silencer ring and noticed a minimal at best increase in turbo sound. I don't want to sacrifice my intake tube by busting the baffles out, and I've seen replacement intake tubes for sale at Geno's and AFE. Would like to know if anyone's fashioned their own replacement tube and what materials were used. Thought about furnace pipe, but they're about a half to an inch too small in diameter.

Anybody?

Thanks in advance!

I replaced that silencer thingie with a piece of (I think) 5" exhaust tubing that I got from Napa. Cost around ten bucks a foot or so. The rubber fittings are a bit bigger than the tubing is but will compress down and seal very well. Ends up being a bit cheaper than the other replacements. About $15 for the tubing and a can of spray paint compared to $50-$100. While you're at it, remove the baffles in the lower elbow.

YOU are going to lose a lot of flow doing it like above, I've proved it on a flow bench, you cannot go from 4 inch to 5 inch to 4 inch without a lot of turbulence. Insert a 4 inch piece of sewer pipe inside the gutted air box(see my prior post last week), and you will pick up 25% increase over the above method.
