Will it bolt right in? Assuming that the input shafts have the same spline count. I have a 29 spline DLD from my 5sp. So would a DHD from a manual truck fit right in?

It will bolt right in, but you will need a different slip yoke for your rear driveshaft. Also I think you will need to have your drive shaft shortened. There might be enough on the slip joint to allow it to fit.

It isn't a true DHD then. I believe you are wanting a 31 spline. They made some cases called them DHD, and they have a PTO cover, but that doesn't mean they have the big output shaft.

Measure your output shaft diameter. I think the big ones are 1. 6 " The smaller ones are less than 1. 5"

Is the only difference in the output shaft? I found a used smaller one for $700 and a rebuilt bigger one for $850. How much will it cost to get the rear driveshaft to work?

My suggestion is before you buy the new yoke and all, is go ahead and upgrade to a 1480 yoke on the output of the transfer and the pinion on the D80, probably jsut have a new drive shaft made. You can keep your old stuff to sell or put back on your truck if you decide to sell it. You will have around $200 in a used driveshaft from a D80 truck.

One thing some guys like to think is the ujoint is a fuse, well the problem arises is that when something breaks the shock load may take out something else. Build it so it won't break and then have a setup that doesn't bounce(tire choice and suspension setup) I would think for less than $500 you should be able to get new drive shaft. I have broken two fronts(shattered the CV joint on one and twisted the splines on the other) The actual tube on the rear one had a twist in it. So I just had some made.

Contact a junkyard, many of them can do an autoparts search. I got mine for $550 shipped. The place it came from was in minnesota, but I used these guys. http://www.lonekiwi.com/ it was a few years back.

I might be running more HP, but that manual you have can be very hard, especially at the lauches and down at the end of the track, when you just about to stall it out.
