DIDGUSTED with Blackstone Labs!

BOMBing D-905 Kubota Diesel??

Two questions!

One: On the Dmaxes, how can they run such high numbers, with drugs, with stock turbo? Isn't all that power boosting the turbo out of it's map?

Two: What exactly is a short-block Cummins. Is there a long block? What's the difference!

Thanks!

Nick

Nick,

I don't know enough about DM bombing to give you a useful answer on your first question.

The term "short block" typically refers to the reciprocating assembly alone, i. e. : block, crank, rods, pistons. The term "long block" means the short block plus the head, valves, lifters, rockers, etc.

This is different than a situation where there is a "tall deck" and "short deck" motor like the Mark IV GM truck engines.

hope this helps,

Dave

Nick,

I believe they're having to run the drugs (specifically, nitrous oxide) because they're pretty much limited to the stock turbo. In other words, the nitrous is providing the additional oxygen that the turbo can't, so it takes a lot of nitrous to burn the additional fuel required for big HP numbers.

Long block vs. short block

About the dmax, I have no idea. The differance between a long block and a short block is that a long block has the external accesaries such as waterpump, alternator, and so on already on it, or so is my understanding. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Got it, thanks! I figured the Dmax guys had to run a lot of nitrous to make up for the turbo boost and to keep EGTs down.

Short block, got it!
