A lot of the 68 issues could be avoided if you literally run the S H I T E out of the truck when new!!! I did on my 11 and never had an issue with nice shifts. My dad had the same in a 12 DRW HO and it performed nice also. 68 is a learning trans.

I suggest to people that they drive both. I point out some differences in how they feel. I have not driven a 2021 or 2022: just both of in a 2018, 2019, and 2020.

When I drove the 2018 68RFE setup it was slower to get the memo the throttle had "hit the floor" and get moving from a dead stop or at 65 MPH. Coming from a tuned 2003 with a NV5600 "Dump The Clutch" and we are moving NQA. The HO Aisin was quicker to get the memo and get moving, but, a hard sell as it's is also slow to get accelerating from a stop or at 65 MPH. Once they do get them memo, find the proper gear, spool the turbo, etc. yeah they move out quickly.

The HO Aisin is closer to a Manual Trans and the only reason I got a new RAM vs. looking elsewhere.

The 2020's I drove will slip the tires on takeoff so RAM has improved this sluggish throttle response for both transmissions. When I get a loaner vehicle I do a accidental burnout because the throttle is that much more responsive than my 2018.

The 2018 HO Aisin has some refinement needed. The 1-2 spread is very wide and appears to be difficult to handle. RAM doesn't want to drop the dammed thing into 1st gear and leave it there under some conditions. I have had cargo shift from a stop as it decided to bang-shift into second as we got going from a complete stop. A steep grade like a driveway that makes a HO engine reach for first gear is 2 - neutral REV UP - 1st "posi traction test" on concrete. (I limit the amount of throttle during this shift and avoid a burnout. Aka I drive around it. 2019's also have this problem.) The other shifting problems it had have mostly been addressed with software updates. The current irritation is in a slow parking lot where the dammed thing should simply stay in 1st gear and about the time you let off mild throttle it bangs into 2nd gear. Coming to a stop and then backing up can bang shifting from "D" to "N" from time to time as it's wound up with some power still left wanting to go forward.

I have scattered enough transmissions behind diesel engines so I will take the better odds of a MD transmission going the distance. The sound of the overdrive gears eating debris like a muffler blowing up and then dragging on the road gets $$$$ OLD $$$$ quick. Because after all it's only odds... With the number of light duty diesels I have blown up, well, this is why I am driving an industrial Cummins in a RAM wrapper in the first place.

X2 on the Air Ride and 50 Gal tank option. The 5th wheel hitch prep may also be of interest. Cab running lights are no longer standard so if you want those (water leaks) you need to check that box as well. I would make the dealer remove the Firestone tires and put something better on.

There is some truth to this. Mine shifts a good deal differently than it did the day I brought it home. It doesn't get run much unless its hooked to a trailer.

Oh, trust me...I know what my man likes! First Husband (FH) will spoil all my fun if I bring him into the process. Bad idear. Can't wait to hear the exhaust brake in the Blue Ridge with the Aisen. Uber cool.

The AS69RC transmissions are great. My 2014 RAM 3500 with AS69RC was traded in at 362k miles and never skipped a beat. My current 2018 RAM 4500 has 380k miles on it.....and it has been great as well, with a few GCW’s of 38k, 39k, and 42k.

you would think would be steered to the 2500/68

One difference in the 3500 vs. the 2500 is the Tire Reporting systems. The 3500 doesn't complain about tire pressure: it just reports it. When you air the 2500 rear tires down for "unloaded" weight the TPMS complains about it.

What do you haul now and then? I assume it's an RV.

HO, AISIN, Night Edition... Wicked good performance and Wicked good looks.

Go order it tomorrow!

Come back with the order sheet... we promise not to tell.

Happy Trails, Ron

I would never have another black truck after my last Nite Bronco as you just cant keep it clean, let alone if you have 6" of tire past the fender well throwing everything in god's creation down the sides, First thing I did on my 2020 was HD Mopar mud flaps to keep that dark red from getting gravel, dust, water, etc all down the sides 10feet from the wash station..

to each is own tho.

I had a black truck once. Bought from my brother summer 1967 when I returned from SE Asia.

Wasn't really a mistake, as it was very cool with a nice cam'd 283 and B/W T-10 transmission.

This was a mistake however in 2001. But looked good with the next gen 16" wheels I put on it.

FYI, The Night addition can be had in all body colors:

"The 2021 Ram Heavy Duty Limited Night Edition now comes in all of your favorite Limited exterior colors. Available on Ram 2500 and 3500 Limited models, this special edition features a black
Limited grille with R-A-M letters, sleek black wheels, a lavish all-black interior and striking black exterior accents."

Although, black does look pretty good.

First of all, I cannot believe you would think all of this--tall gorgeous brunette with a handle "Steel Toe Stilettos"--would be towing an RV! Sheesh! When we haul, we haul pre-war Packards, Arabians, and luscious building materials.
