hey Gang... . my 03 (build date of 11-02) per the window sticker says it has a 47re in it... . my neighbor just got his 03 (tho not a dually) with a 48re... . mine shifts as firm or firmer (and it is stock)than his and hits nice when pulling my monster trailer..... question at hand is ... are there external difference's or numbers on the case so i can see if i have a fluke trans or a 48re... i looked under and did not see anything different... . the reason is all i have heard about the 47re is that it is a slush box but better than 46re... mine hits as hard as my E40D with a shift kit did in my Superduty... .

I would say you have the 47re since the 48re was not released until after the first of the year. The shift quality could be related to different programing than Gen 2 47re's.

I agree, it is probably a 47RE.

If want to check for sure here is what you do. First find the Body Code Plate. It is located on the passenger side front hydroform fender rail, the vertical member just to the inside of the passenger headlight assembly. The cord for the block heater is clipped to this member. The Body Code Plate is riveted to this member. There should be a few lines of information on this plate, at least four. Look for a three-digit code on this plate. If your transmission is a 47RE there will be a code that read DGP, if it is a 48RE it will read DG8. With respect to the writing, the code for my transmission was at the bottom left of the plate. Hope this helps out. Good luck.
