hey guys i am wondering if you all think i need a cool down timer. I am just worried i am hurting my turbo by not having one. Here is my driving habbits. I do drive it like i stole it (when fully warmed up). the farthest i drive is to school which is about 30 miles away, in the mornings and afternoons from work it is 8 miles. and any other trip is in between 8-30 miles... ... oh i forgot i drive 2 blocks to my girlfriends house  :D

I just keep my foot out of it for 3 or 4 minutes before I get to my destination and then let it idle for 30 seconds and then shut down.

love mine

No, you probably don't need the timer, but you may WANT it, even if you don't realize it yet.

I love mine and use it religously. I really like being able to set it for 6 minutes and run in to the conveneince store. Truck is still running when I come back out, stick the key in, and go. Best of all no one is going to drive off with my truck 'cause if you release the brake the engine dies.

But most of all, I just feel better about the long term reliability of the turbo.

Besides, I'm a gadget freek!

These turbos seem to cool down pretty fast. Have you considered putting a pyrometer on? That would eliminate the need for a timer although when you are at the girlfriend's place, it could seem like a long time;) .

What a Pyro controlled shut down/timer? I want to say I saw something like that from one of the bigger companies; BD maybe?

LOL yeah Dean you got it right on the button. It also really sucks to have the truck cool down after we get home from partying or just chillin and she is giving me that special eye  :D :D :D

hey guys my buddy with a greddy turbo timer on his rx7 said his turbo timer would work on my truck to... Is he right or what... . if you guys arent sure ill try it... I think id save everyone a ton of money because they are way cheaper.

isspro turbo temp monitor

I have one I installed in my '01 and took the monitor out when i traded it in for my '03. I am about to install it in the '03 because there are times that I can't wait for the truck to cool down.

I have a post-turbo pyro I use for shutdown. It is extremely rare that I reach my destination and the temp is NOT below 300 (commonly accepted shutdown temp). In fact, I usually idle it until it gets below 250. I always idle it at least 15 seconds or so, just to get some fresh oil circulated through the bearings (thanks, JHardwick!).

I like the turbo temp monitor, and that's what I would get. It's shutdown temp is adjustable.

Just to imform those who are planning to put on an e-brake that you have to turn it off if you ever want the turbo to cool down.

If I turn it off when I am turning into a truck stop for example, by the time I get to the pump the temp is pretty well down there, same thing when I turn into my driveway, by the time I am in the garage, the temp is under 300*.

As I said before, these turbos cool down pretty fast.
