I went from rv275 injectors to jammer 3s and I notice a little more power and a lot more smoke. Im not really crazy about making smoke. Am I blowing power out the tail pipe cause my turbo is to small for my fuel system? I was thinking about the dodgezilla cause its cheap, but I have also thought about the 62. My egts are pretty controlable so my only reason for a turbo swap would be for more power. if its not going to add power then Im not really interested.

I have an aftermarket clutch that feels fine so far. I pull 33psi of boost. How much power do I need... as much as efficiently possible. :p I tow heavy and daily drive empty.

Mike,

Heck yes, everybody NEEDS a turbo!!! But you are not alone, I don't have one yet either...

How about a HTB2 fuel squeezer 62/12? More power, better mileage, upgradeable.

Godspeed,
Trent

an upgraded turbo will help you in the power and heat department but as far as cleaning up smoke, you actually might smoke just a little bit more down low due to increased lag. going with a 62/12 for your mods sounds just about right, a dodgezilla would be good too. i recommend Industrial Injections Super Phat Shaft 62/12

Another option for you would be the Aurora 2000 or 3000. I can get a good cloud right away but it clears up really fast when the 2000 starts spooling, which is pretty quick. The real culprit with your smoke is the Smarty, the modified power curve puts everything down low meaning more fuel right off the line, at least the way I've seen it explained.

My truck smoke even without the smarty. the Jammer 3s do that. The higher the smarty setting the more the smoke, I understand that. When Im gettin on it their is still quite a bit of smoke. My thought is that smoke is unburned fuel, so more air (from bigger turbo) would mean burning the rest of the fuel and = more power and increased efficincy. Am I correct on this one?

How does the Dodgezilla compare Industrial Injections Super Phat Shaft 62/12? Is one better than the other? The Dodgezilla is half the price which is pretty appealing :D but if Im gonna wish I had saved up for something else then it aint worth it.

Mike

One more question :p What kind of boost #s should I expect with each of those 2 turbos?

BTW thanks for the help guys.

Mike

When you got your injectors did you get the tips or the whole injector? If just the tips, did you get them pop tested? I have dd3's and with no smarty and stock turbo they would barely smoke at all.

SPS 62 for sure. It is a great turbo. . You will have to waste gate it at 40 or so if you dont have studs they can clear 60 psi if you let them.

I just got the tips. I did not have them pop tested but it runs smooth as hell an hauls butt:-laf After having these apart I dont see why you would need to. The only thing your changing is the spray pattern. As long as you dont contaminate them with debris I would think they should be good. They dont bleed down and power is smooth and strong from 900rpms on up.

Mike

The SPS is set from II @ 40psi boost. It does however have an adjustable elbow so if you do end up getting studded you an adjust it out.

Yes but they have set pop psi. If they all dont open at the same psi it can effect atomization... smoke levels are opinionated I guess. I mean my smoke is barely visible... no darker than from a big rig. With just the 3's it shouldnt be that bad.

Without the smarty thats about how dark my smoke is too. With the smarty on 5 and above its a lot more than Im comfortable with. Id just like to have a little cleaner power if possible.

Mike

Like JamesThomas said, they have to open at the same psi, being a mechanical injector, this is accomplished by shimming the tips in the injectors.

Well do the obvious stuff clean the filters etc. If all thats in order then I would have to say you are out of options til you get a turbo. The 62/12 would be a good turbo. I have heard some say that they spool as fast if not faster than the stocker. Talk to Doug Smith (Jet Pilot) at performance diesel warehouse. He will be able to help you out with anything you need.

For starters, I dont belive you can get a Super Phat shaft in a 12cm housing, I think you can only get the regular phat shaft (super uses a 71mm wheel, regular uses a 65mm wheel). the normal phat shaft is the same thing as a HTB2 (or the fuel squeezer mentioned earlier).

I run the dodgezilla and love it. Mileage went up, top end power incresed, etc. I need a larger turbo with the amount of fuel I have, but for what you have i think it would be close to enough. I also run it with the 14cm housing.

I would like to step up to a SS62 or something, but I just dont really want any lag associated with it. I love the lightning fast response of the dodgezilla, which I think is actually faster than the stock hx35.

FWIW, any of the s300 variants (htb2, ps62, etc) will be more robust than the HX35 or dodgezilla. not really a big deal though unless you surge it a lot or like to run drugs.

Why couldnt you get a 12 cm exhaust housing? I was told that you could when I was shopping for one... ... ... . Get a 12 for better off the line or towing performance or the 14 for more top end.
