2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Do I really have to take my truck to the dealer after bleeding the brakes???

I changed the brake fluid and bled the brakes. Now the ABS and Brake lamps are lit. I definitely don’t have ABS anymore since I just slid through an intersection. Everything else on the 2001 4x4 3500 seems to work right. The manual says that after bleeding the brakes, the DBRIII scan tool needs to cycle the brake motor and equalize the pressure between the front and rear hydraulic systems. Anyone done this without having to go to the dealer and have them use their DBR scan tool? Is that the only way it can be done or is there another tool that can do the job? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have bled my brakes using the gravity method a couple of times , and recently with the pressure bleeder that EGR sells.

I've never had a problem like you describe.

BTW I have 4 wheel ABS

I did my fronts only and didn't experience any of the problems you described???

I have rear drums if that makes any difference?

i know it might sound dumb but if they wont go off by themselves you may want to try replacing the diff. speed sensor. same thing happened to me on my 98. 5. just an idea. :--) its about 34 bucks from dealer.

I vaccum bled mine and had no problems.

You might want to check the front wheel bearings. My lights came on every time a wheel bearing got loose. I know all you did was bleed the system but it might have relaxed the calipers enough to set the code. On my 3rd left front wheel bearing and 2nd right.
