Well, I am at about 85K on all original front end components. I traded in the 96 with the expection of a tie rod, with all original front end components at 185K. Do I think that I am lucky, not really, that is why I buy Dodge/Cummins. :D

I certainly don't baby my trucks. But I do put alot of highway miles on them. But I go through tires like they were made out of pencil erasers. Got 28K on the Stock Michelins, now on third set of tires. So I don't think that I drive straight all the time to get so much more miles out of the stock parts.

But to directly answer your questions is that if you have to have the trac bar replaced under warranty, will you have to replace it again? The answer would be depends on when you get rid of it. But you can expect if your stock one lasted 30K your next one will last about that long also. So should you upgrade? I wouldn't, I would wait until you are out of warranty and then do something about it more long term. Or you might decide to get a 600:) before then!

thanks Doug. That new HO does appeal to me. The cost difference between repairing the front end and trading up makes it an easy decision right now however.

I just gotta say, that front end tech giving me his cocky speech about his preference for the GM/Duramax really sent me fuming. Dodge wasn't my choice... Cummins was. :)

You can reasonably expect high maintenance on the Dodge front end. 30K miles is about as far as they will go when used hard.

i am upgrading as much of the front end as I can, because I want to have this thing forever. By fixing the trackbar, the rest of the front end will last a little longer. Same with the DSS-- you put it in and your steering box should last almost forever.

One pointer on the DT install: take it out of the box and preassemble the WHOLE THING. Visualize where things go, and where you will have to drill holes, etc. This will also make sure that you have all the parts you need. It took me about 3 hours to do mine, but it was outside in 15 degree weather. Probably an hour of that was centering it and figuring out how to tighten those jam nuts. The pass side jam nut is hard to get a wrench on. I ended up using some pipe pliers (like huge chanellocks with a 90 degree bend) and that's what did the trick.

People who have driven my truck say it steers like a 2wd! And I don' t even have the DSS in yet.

Power steering Fluid

Was reading some old post's had thought I better coment.

I was Told by Lee Racing in calif. Who has rebuilt Steering boxes for me (Race quality) never to use synthetic in Power Steering as it eats away at the seals. Thought I would just ad that thought

I wanted to update this thread, I just went to Chicago viva the toll road and skyway, and boy what a difference in driving the truck. Those who have driven this route know that it is Always under construction and bumpy as heck, windy and add to that narrow lanes with concrete dividers which usually makes it a white knuckle driving experience for me. With the install of the DSS, its not a problem now, no more white knuckles :D .
