Son has a 04. 5 2500 with 4000 miles on it. Runs great, no white smoke or others issues (except possibly a mild, occasional stumble while cold).

Getting 17-19 (hand calculated) mixed easy driving which we think is pretty good for an 04. 5.

His OH reading however is low by 1. 5 to 2. 5 compared to the real cacalulated values.

Thinking of doing the reflash available for that '04. 5 (White smoke/ OH value correction) but don't want to jeprodize good fuel milage

QUESTION-

What has been your experience on having the reflash? Would you do it again? Has anyone had their milage go down after the reflash? Could the good milage even increase and get a better OH correlation. Or is it best to leave well enough alone???

I just had it done on my 05 that was built in 8-04. No negative effects. Can't tell any difference driving. Gained about 1 MPG. Last tank was 18. 3 mpg hand calc.

My hand-calc milage went up 2. 4 on the highway, 2. 1 in the city. No negative affects. Yes, I'd do it again. You have to report the poor mileage and white smoke for the dealer on the service order when you take it in. I'd print a copy of the TSB & have it in my back pocket too.

Re-flash

I had my 05 ( Prod date 8/04 ) done. Went fron 12 to 9. 8. Hand calculated. Towing very light, less than 3000 lb, occasionaly. I need help!! The best I ever got was the 220 mile trip home from the dealer, 70 mph, 13. 8.

Your truck is broken. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Bad injector(s)?

Been to the dealer. He does not want to do anything until I have over 10,000 miles on it. What do I need to do to get them to investigate??

Ask for the dealer to pay for your fuel till they get it fixed.

Don't fix it if it ain't broken

17-19mpg is REAL good. Could you get more? Yup, just put more miles on it and tow some heavy stuff. After the reflash on my truck, the Overhead has been averaging a 10% optimistic error compared to the unflashed 5-5. 5%pessimistic error. Towing 7500lbs and up, the error climbs to a max of 26% optimistic and averages about 22% too much. At steady state highway speeds for a whole tank, it gets within 2. 5% of actual which is pretty good.

I can't quantify any mileage gains or losses after the reflash but my hp and torque curves noticeably changed after the flash.
