I heard they don't

but

I'm guessing with 335K miles it would not hurt

they have never been adjusted

what do you think????? heard it may even lower EGT'S

any way to do it without a barring tool???

i thought i saw a thread about doing it but can't find it another one i saw said use the alt. nut. i have a DC manual i'll see what it says

The answer is Yes!!! They should be adjusted after 24K and at least checked every 48K miles from there on out. No you really don't need a barring tool to adjust them, if this is your first time, I would use a barring tool and you can pick them up at cummins for about 30 bucks. I use a remote start switch.

I believe my book says 150K. I adjusted mine at 150K and it did make it run smoother. My valves were all looser by around . 002" to . 003" than the nominal spec.

I have a remote i'll try that

sounds like it is a good idea

if it cools down i'll give it a shot this evening

do i need a valve cover gasket?? (rubber Silicon Paper)

factory manual call for adjustment at 150,000k, with engine temp. below 140f. you can use a 22mm socket on the alternator pulley. you have to remove the vent tube cover on the timing cover to see the marks to adjust. procedure can be found by seaching the data base on site.

valves

I had some help from a friend when we did mine at 106,000. It was the first time thery had been done. There were a couple that were pretty far out of adjustment. It made a nice difference in the way the truck ran as well as making the truck a little bit more quiet. Oo.

Timing marks... you don't need no stinkin' timing marks! For each cylinder, adjust the exhaust when the intake is open and the intake when the exhaust is open!
