Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) do VP trucks have a limp mode?

got an 01 that I am parting out, was in a salt water flood and engine is in good shape was not run while flooded but had about a pint of water in the bottom of oil pan, well changed fluids and swapped a starter and truck runs good and smooth but however it has no power like it is something in the electronics holding it back since it doesn't skip or studder or stumble which is likely since I don't expect my phone to be dropped in water and work properly afterwards. just wondering if it is in a "limp" mode or just bad electronics

I've never heard of a 24 valve in the limp mode but I guess that doesn't mean it's not possible. The ECM probably got wet.

Perhaps you can get lucky if the ECM is a sealed unit. I've never seen one removed from the engine. I wonder if you could remove it and carefully clean the pins of the male and female connectors with contact cleaner and restore it? I don't remember ever reading or hearing of anyone with a flooded truck but I'm sure it's happened.

A faulty MAP sensor or circuit could put the truck into what feels like limp mode. Test the plug for proper voltage (5 volts IIRC). Try hooking up a scan tool to the OBD port. If your ecm is bad, a scanner will most likely not be able to communicate with the truck

Will it rev up at all and if so will it reach max rpm? A vp will start and idle with 12 volts.

yeah, it'll rev in neutral. don't plan on driving the truck just parting out but want to describe issues better if some one wanting to use complete engine as a drop in replacement. but i'll see if a obdII will read
and map sensor

If it revs up like it supposed to I doubt its the MAP sensor. I misunderstood you I thought you were imlpying it doesnt make any rpm

The engine does have a de-rate feature to protect itself due to a number of faults. A failure of the map sensor does not always set a dtc

I wonder if the Turbo has seized up?

Does it blow lots of black exhaust smoke under power?

A vp truck will free rev fine with out a load but not accelerate well till about 2kr under load

I have 2 ecm here not sure what they have for programs in them but if you were in Iowa you could try one and see
