Interesting article about a State Trooper

i've noticed that most people here call it a truck. i've grown up with the mindset that anything 1 ton or less is a pickup. I grew up on a farm/ranch and for practical reasons we called them pickups because when you said truck, you were talking about something different. I think of a truck as something with more than 2 axels and 6 gears, with some exceptions. Just curious what everyone else thinks?

Eastern WA farm community:: if it has a stylized box it's a Pickup.

If a Flatbed its a Truck

Farmers out here would place you with the New York Salsa crowd if you drove up in your Pickup and asked howdya like my truck?? :-laf

Compared to Trucks, it's a Pickup.
Compared to Cars, it's a Truck.
When I go down the road, there are a lot more cars than Trucks. So most of the time I'm a truck.

However, when I go to a truck stop to weigh my 5th wheel rig, I have to tell them I'm a pickup... while I'm standing on the hood so I can talk into the speaker :-laf

Funny, my SD Farm and Ranch Grandparents used to correct me when I referred to a pickup as a truck. Now I've been know to use both terms... mostly "truck" though I guess.

We refer to our's as trucks. Even when I had a Toyota, it was a truck.

If you call them pickups though, I won't correct you. It's all good.

1 ton and smaller- Pickup

Unless a 1 Ton Dually has a service body on it I would consider it a truck.

Over 1 ton - Truck

It really burns me to hear people refer to there little Suvs as Trucks also.

OH yeah the Horse trailer on a Cadilac Days are over:{ It was still a common sight until about 10 years ago in this area.

From good 'ol Webster:

truck - wheeled vehicle for moving heavy articles: as a: a strong horse-drawn or automotive vehicle (as a pickup) for hauling

car - a vehicle moving on wheels

pickup - a light truck having an enclosed cab and an open body with low sides and tailgate —called also pickup truck

I normally use "truck".

i hate it most when people refer to their SUV as a truck.

Actually, I often use "car", because I don't want people to think I'm trying to act smug the way some SUV owners do when they insist that you refer to their vehicle as a truck.

Ditto, around here we refer to our gals as "trucks". Depending on who we are talking to it could be a pickup, pickup truck, light truck or a 4 wheeler. Makes no matter what we call em, We pull stuff, haul stuff and sometimes push stuff in out "trucks". Heck some times we just go out and get a bite to eat.

i use truck.....

buddy has had one of those honda things for a while now and is gracious enough to still not get ****** when i call it his "homobile".

although i can tell he thinks that's getting old. i'll need to come up with something else soon but love that one.

he calls it the "wife approved truck"
