This is bringing up old fodder but have a question concerning 06 Liberty CRD. My son has one and had it to the dealer today and was told he needed to replace a part that was near the fuel heater, that there was farad wires or something, that it might/would/could catch on fire and he was advised to not drive it until the part was replaced. But he could not see it cause it was on the under side, out of sight. He looked at it himself and could not find any leaking fuel any place. Was there a recall on this certain part? Anyone know? what recalls were done other than has been mentioned, ball joints trans reflash, tie rods?

We think it might be a scam for business. But would like to hear from the audience here.

Thanks

Marv.

I seem to recall something on the lostkjs.com site a few years back when I used to visit there. Something about the fuel heater could short out and burn up. The quick fix was to just unplug the heater until the parts are in.

My wife's 05 CRD has about 47. 5k on it right now and my only regret is I didn't buy a 2nd one for me. It has been a great vehicle.

Did the 05's have the fuel heater? and is it necessary. I found where a lot of people wrote to the NHTSA about the fuel heater problem and nothing was done about it. One guy found some fuel proof sealant and sealed the leak that had developed at the plug. It was sucking air, and when off would leak and get the wires wet. I think that this should have been a recall on chrysler. I wonder if the after market has these fuel heaters, or can be removed like on the 12 valve ctd.

There is 90000 on my wifes liberty. after we got the transmition problembs fixed and a dodge pickup lift pump in the tank it has been a fantastic car.

I really do not think the fuel heater is needed. I unpluged ours two years ago and have not had one problemb. We live in Iowa FWIW

Thanks for the replies guys. My son says there is two plugs attached to the heater elemit. One has three wires and one has two. Undo both? which one should he pull.

Do you know if the heater is like the ctd and can be removed and the micro screen modual put back in its place, like the ctd.

I have a '05 Liberty CRD but no fuel heater problems. I did not even know it was an issue. I have had transmission "issues" but nothing worth going to the dealer for. I changed to Amsoil ATF and it helped. Occasionally, the torque converter does not unlock and stalls the engine. It is rare, but at least now I know it is "expected". I love my Liberty. It would be a nearly perfect vehicle if it were available with a manual transmission.
