It is about time to do something about my terrbile looking rocker panels. My truck turns 5 years old next month and for the last two years or so I have been staring at the ugly fading blochy driftwood paint on the rocker panels.

I have considered one of the colored spray on treatments like line-x and some of the others. Stainless Rocker Panels. New Paint with Chip Guard in it or simply just new paint wth lots of clear coat.

I have seen serveral trucks with this problem. What is really strange is that when the rockers get wet they get spots all through the paint that don't come out for a half hour or so.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on what to do or experience with this problem?

Thanks!

I was considering on adding the Rhino lining to my rockers when I had the bed done. However, after hearing the price ($1200 for the rocker panels alone), I thought that I would wait until they were at least banged up. So far my rockers (entire truck is driftwood) have been holding up well so the extra protection won't be in my immediate future. One thing that I have heard from others is that it is extremely important to get a good application especially on the top edge. The location of the rockers allows for water to seep down and get trapped under the coating thus causing premature rust.

My truck is a 2000 and it is driftwood but I don't see any fading or splotchiness on the rockers, could you guys elaborate a little? Or take a picture?

It ain't just driftwood. Mine are silver and they are tore up something fierce! Lots of rockchips on the rear from my bigger tires...

I'm just gonna have them line-x'ed. Was quoted $650 for the panels and $400 over the rails on the bed, so for $1100, can't go wrong.

I had them done the same time I had the bed and rails sprayed. They only charged me another $250 to do the rockers, so shop around! I am very happy with the results.

I just got a quote from the new Line-X Dealer here in Albuquerque and he quoted me $360 plus tax for the rockers up to the lowest indent on the body panel and also spraying over the wheel wells. I agree, shop around and you might find a better deal. I know that when I tried to get my bed done, (we didn't have one here, yet) and the nearest one in Grants, NM wanted $550 for over the rails, while the one in Golden, CO wanted only $380. Again, shop around if you can take a short trip and get it cheaper, why not?. ?. ?

My grandpa has a 96 with gray on the rockers, and it's peeling of BAD. I guess it's just the paint or something.

The only dodges I've seen with peeling paint (not just the rockers) are gray ones.

Jeff, you know what mine lookede like 3 years ago. I'mm gonna strip the clearcoat and repaint it the metallic charcoal like Ed's truck and be done with it. :{ Mopar did a bad job with this paint-clearcoat combo. :(

Mike... yeah i remember what yours look like... very similar to mine... :{

yeah i may do some for of darker gray metallic with chip guard in it... and lots of clear coat...

only way i would do line-x is if i could do color not just black...

You might think about the charcoal with chip guard. I'm thinking of doing that, it should look good. I'm probably going to reshoot the white with pink or red pearl under it, or just reshoot it in burgundy. Decisions,decisions. :confused:
