Why are pickups the top selling vehicles in America?

That's old news. Much higher death rate from doctors than from a gun.

If my mom hadn't been a CNA and caught it, my sister could've been hurt by taking thyroid medicine she didn't need. She was supposed to take something MUCH different.

Hmmm? I wonder how many people would have died without doctors? :confused: Health care ain't the greatest, but in the mean time I will still continue to see mine.

Everyone dies eventually.

IMO, the problem is that most people don't take responsibility for themselves and their actions. They engage in harmful behavior and bad habits, then they go to the doctor and expect him to 'fix' them. They don't actively see to their own health needs.

The New American mantra: "Its not my fault!" as well as: "Please Doctor, DO something!"

Turbo-Dawg, I jumped all over you on the "Pure Communism" thread, and I still think you are over-reacting on that problem, but on this one I agree with you.

My problem is Doctors are just "practicing. " Ok, they have had the same basic body for how many thousands of years. Figured the dang thing out. Stop guessing. They get ticked when they bring there brand new, first one in the state, 2005 car into the shop with an intermittant problem and I can't fix it. When they have had the same body for that long?! Give me a break... and I'm the one getting paid less to have to remember more.

just my opinion!

my mom died two weeks ago at 63. she had luekemia, the doctors for the last 3. 5 yrs. told her "you have about 6wks to 2mo. to live", put my dad thru hell to say the least. after about a yr. of this blanket answer he adopted the "just practicing" motto also, luekemia was the only health issue she had. the screw-ups @ the hospital were endless and would have fired 20 people in another vocation, but I guess they are a necessary evil.

I think that part of the problem is that many bright forward thinking young people are not considering medicine anymore. The malpractice insurance is very high. Even when doing the right thing some doctors are sued. From what I see the doctors offices are like processing centers where doctors are not able to spend enough time with patients.

I guess things must be better. 100 years ago the average life span was a lot less.

Quality medical care for the average American will be one of the greatest challenges our country faces in the next 100 years IMO.

Without his doctor, my Dad wouldn't have seen his last grandson born. Without his doctor, my Dad would have been dead in a matter of weeks, instead he was with us 13 months after being diagnosed with cancer.

I'm not the biggest fan the medical industry has, but I do apprecite what they have given me.

Any statistics of how many lives doctors have saved?

Doctors are people. People make mistakes. Can you tell me that you've never made an error on your job?

If it weren't for medicine/doctors most of the people on this board would be dead by now..... if you think about it.

Obviously people's lives are at stake, and that raises emotions, etc but the reality is that people are people and they will make mistakes. So if you're worried about it, don't go to the doctor.

A. There are a few places in the world where people routinely live to be well over 100 years old. The have several things;

one of those things is no Doctors.

B. A year ago my wife was having some sever pain;

1. First Dr. diagnosis X, see specialist Dr. #2

2. Dr. #2, you do not have X, you have Y, see specialist #3

3. Dr. #3, you do not have X and you do not have Y, you have Z, see specialist Dr. #4

4. Dr. #4, you do not have X, you do not have Y, you do not have Z, you have ZZ,

5. Went to see Dr #5, he agreed with Dr. no 3---in part and with a difference, but he was more convincing and made more sense. With his conclusion, wife hit the internet and decided what to do about it, did it. Problem solved,

But it sure was frustrating to get so many contradictory diagnosies, at least 3 of which were just plain wrong.

In May of 1981, Wife was given 2 years to live(we saw specialist in 5 major cities, and they all agreed), so she told them to stuff it and went the alternative medicine route. Today she is far more healthy than before she got sick in 1980. She got sick in Nov. '80 and not correctly diagnosed untill may of 1981--it was a very rare disorder that most Drs have never seen.

But as was pointed out, sometimes you do need them and would be in real trouble without them. But too many people overuse them and too many Drs. are way too eager to write a prescription.

what a bunch of crybabies ...

if you don't trust doctors then don't go to them

the next time you break a bone ... set it yourself

the next time your wife has a baby deliver it yourself

the next time your kids appendix is bad take it out yourself

tonsils swollen? so what!

and my all time favorite ... when the chest pains start ... just go to back to bed ... it'll all be over in a little while!

Yea, dang it don't go making a fuss about the couple hundred thousand people a year they kill by error,(who knows how many hundreds of thousands are unnecessarily sick, disabled, crippled etc in addition to the few hundred thousand they kill each year)

why heck, if people start drawing attention to that sort of thing, they just might begin to do a better, safer job. Wouldn't want to upset the present perfect situation!. Save your complaints for BIG problems where maybe a thousand or so people get killed like the Iraq war.
