Info needed for my conversion thread...

1)What year(s) of Dodges had 205 passenger drops, CTD's and an automatic

2) What automatics were offered in these configurations?

3) Did dodge use a transmission transfer case adapter that is interchangeable between years for the 205... i. e. can an earlier dodge 205 and adapter be used on a late model CTD or H. O. Elec version

4) I assume there was no adapter plate from the trans to motor,,, and that the bellhousing is a direct mate?

Many Thanks for any answers

My 93 is a passanger drop 205. I believe all of the first gens came this way.

As far as adapters go mine bolts directly up to the transmission.

Hope this helps a little

205 dodge interchangability

Thanks James

What transmission is in your truck?

do you know if your t/case trans would bolt up to a lalter ctd or 24 valve block. . Im assuming it would... but I am a novice at CTD's and just getting up to speed... my TDR welcome package was helpful. .

I am pretty new to the CTD world myself.

Let me take a look at the manual because I forget what auto transmission I have. The biggest thing you will need to worry about is the spline count of the output shaft and the shape and bolt pattern on the transfer case.

Checked the transmission is an A518/46rh.

First gens recieved 727's from 89 to 91 with the 205 pass side drop.

First gens recieved 518's non lockup covertors from 91. 5 to 93 with the 205 pass side drop.

205's from auto's recieved a smaller input shaft then the ones that came from manual trucks.

Several people have put later model lockup/OD autos between a first gen engine and a 205.

Someone that has done some engine swaps will have to answer the engine adapter question. I believe there is a differnce in the 24 valves to the old twelve valves. Read it hear that guys going to 6 speeds in an old truck need a differnet adapter, starter on the block. But I do not know if that applies to auto's or not.

What are you looking at doing?

mike...

Im interested in a built 727, a dodge 205, and a second gen motor into my 89 v3500 4 x4 crewcab chevy,,,

I already have a gv and the 727 would be easiest to adapt with the dodge 205 which will bolt up to the chevy crossmember... I dont kniow anything about the 518 transmission or its durability... I am not worried about a 727 ,,I think they can be made durable for towing with the right pieces. . and not doing a locking convertor makes the whole conversion easier...

thanks for the really good info

The 518 is a 727 with an OD unit. The od unit can be upgraded to handle a good running cummins. The 518 is a little longer because of the od unit. I would think it would be an expensive but wise upgrade to go to a lock up convertor. I'm not building your truck or spending your money though. I have heard that some 727's had lock up covertors, but I have no idea what application those were in, and if they will bolt to a cummins or not.

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan going right now. I was getting ready to ask if you needed some 3. 07's for your truck or not. I am looking to trade in the next several months from my 90. Want some 4. 10's

michael...

I have 4. 10s... rear detroit and a front true track... lots of money in them already... the gear vendor and the 33 inch 19. 5 tires get the rpms where they should be for the ctd... .

thanks for the offer. . Im good...

IF I didnt have an od the 518 would be a good choice as there is plenty of room for a longer tailshaft transmission ... crews have a 2 piece driveshaft

I got a little apprehensive when I looked at DTT's site and saw trannies starting close to 4k... but I understand everyone in the PNW considers him an excellent resource... I will give him a call

thanks
