Why is it that you never see 0% APR specials.

Brrrr Cold! -12 startup

I can't ever recall a comercial on tv bragging about a Cummins powered truck. But they brag about the hemi almost daily now. Does Chrystler not care about selling and promoting all there product lines? Or do they not play those kinda commercials in this area?

When you see the one with the idiot and his loud speaker, that acts like Jethrow, it makes you sick. To think that sissy little heni motor they have now , yes I know I mispelled it - CAUSE IT AIN"T NO HEMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DC should be embarassed to try and live off that real motor. But hey, they know what the half ton crowd wants. But you're right, not any Cummins ads in a long time. It is irritating because research has proven that ADS are viewed several times more by recent buyers than folks who have not yet purchased. The Reason - they want to be assurred that they made the correct choice - Honest! It's the same reason when you buy a new rig, what happens? All of a sudden you see them all over the place. There aren't anymore - you are now just cued into seeing them.

I've got an idea for a Cummins ad. Start out showing some of the hot-shotters,RV guys and farmers hauling heavy loads and some with high miles(like the ones that are over a million),then pan to some of the more extreme guys at truck pulls and drag racing(where the Dodge/Cummins are dominant). Then ad the tagline"wether you work or play,Dodge/Cummins is the only way" ;) :D :D ... Doug

Real life??? no, commercials must be totally staged crap.

Reality of it is--even though Cummins helped Dodge get back on the map--users like us AIN'T the big market.

Another reality is that with enough advertising you can sell polished turds. The Cummins sells itself, because yall are right, DC does NOT push it.

There is that one where the Ford and Chevy are pulling horse trailers down the dragstrip. I think that's a pretty cool commercial - even if my brand isn't in it. But you're right - the majority of the ad dollars goes for the 1/2 ton trucks.

Obviously Cummins is making about all they can make and they don't want to invest in additional capacity OR else they'd do some advertising - and the ads like FFUTCH suggested - man you could be creative and have a ball... ... There's more going on than we know... ... ... . and it may be that DC is silently waiting to PURCHASE Cummins... ... ... .

I saw that Ford commercial. The reason Dodge wasn't in it is that Ford can't outperform Dodge in the towing dept and to hold back on the Dodge/Cummins in the commercial would be false advertising. As to why we don't see diesel commercials, in my opinion, when you add $5000+ to the cost of a truck to get a diesel, you darn well know trucks and you know what's out there--expensive commercials most likely won't sway fanatics like us!;) Where commercials work well are for uninformed people who can't decide between a a car, SUV or a truck. Just my take. :D

Hammersley is right, Cummins is barely producing enough engines to keep up with the demand of DC. DC is having no problems selling this truck engine combination as is, with little or no advertising. Now maybe if Cummins would produce these engines at another plant other than CMEP in Columbus, IN, they could supply more to DC, then of course they'd probly still sell without advertising. Bill

Dodge doesn't need to advertise the Cummins... EVER. It simply sells itself. Over 2/3 of the HD trucks sold by Dodge are cummins. As was said, they're too busy pushing advertising and marketing on the 1/2 ton Hemi. Trying to keep up with the competition. I'd prefer them spend the advertising money on developing a true crew cab and a medium duty line.

A company spends its advertising budget where it is needed to boost sales, gain market share, hold market share, etc. I don't think DC needs to spend money on advertising to sell Cummins powered Dodge Rams. Fanatics like us buy them and tell our friends and neighbors about them.

Lookey though. The dodge pickup sales are up 13% this year and thats with a halfway new body style. The advertising appears to be working.

i've seen tv spots for chevy duramax/allison combo, and for the ford "all new" flowerjoke diesel engine / torqueslip trans.

none for dodge. i like it that way...

Tons of FlowerPoke commercials in this region: "the shadow", "the airplane", "the drag race" etc.

I've only seen the Isuzu and the Cummins "mentioned" in general full-line truck ads.

And like Nick said--that's fine. I know what I got and Joe D told me what the 600 is. Why do I need fancy advertising?

for most of us, we came looking for the cummins diesel even without advertising. in reality, those that buy diesels do their own research because it is somewhat of a specialty item. the gas 1/2 ton and "contractors" truck market is a whole different deal!!

i have had multiple buddies say "why would you want to spend extra money on a noisy, stinky truck??" then i give them a ride. :D

they definately change the way they think about diesels, but not one has said "i might consider a diesel next time i buy". DC would probably have a hard time trying to advertise that "difference".

when i talk to my relatives on the phone and i tell them i bought a diesel truck, they want to know if it is a Mack or Kenworth (or something like that). they are too uneducated to realize that DC sells diesels in pickups. on this particular point, advertising would help.

The reality is, we are select group of people and i like it that way! i have never been one to go with the crowd. advertising will not reach people like me. i very rarely make a purchasing decision based on TV or radio ads. maybe their market research has actually been on target, because they know their advertising money is wasted on me.
