ITS A WONDERFUL (diesel) LIFE

I was on the Dodge lot last night and checked out the new crew cab and it is not bad. I am talking about room inside not the style. It is not as big as the Ford but dam near the GM. Also noticed the new dash, very nice. The tach goes to 7000rpm, are the new gas motors in the future high reving?

I too took a look at the new guys down at the lot, I think they are sharp. Does anyone know what the beef is on the 2500/3500's 4x4 front end? I will honestly fall down and cry if Dodge trucks go the independent route. :( But I might save up if they are going to be 300hp straight axle beasts :D

took a Ram 1500 for a spin this week

The wife brought home a new Ram 1500 last week for me to test drive(she works at the Dodge dealer-love that girl!). First thing I noticed was the non Dana front end :( , but hey' it's only a 1/2 ton anyway. This one has the Jeep engine 4. 7L V-8, and I gotta say I was impressed, when you put it to the floor it has a nice ROAR, and it will even get out of it's own way. The auto trans. worked very well with the engine downshifts at the appropriate times and shifted smoothly. I think it looks a bit like a Ford from the rear, but the big *** grille is kinda growing on me! The interior is a lot more roomy than the previous model and the seats have good lower back support, The dash looks kinda like something Mercedes would do, I like it, but then I'm a bit biased. I just hope they don't do anything STOOOPID with the 2500 and 3500's and make 'em IFS, I love my Dana axle.

Power wagon,

Are they doing a Hemi next year?

hey guys, look, they even show the new Ram towing a boat, cool!

I stopped and looked at a "Quad" cab. IMO, it's not roomy enough to call it a crew cab. The instrumentation was nice and I REALLY liked the staggered setup for the radiator and A. C. condenser. However, if the new one ton dually crew cab isn't a LOT bigger, I'll mosey on down to the F**d or Che*y dealer. (with checkbook in hand. )

I saw a masked up 2003 Quad Cab Dually 4X4 on wed 10-10-01.

:D DO NOT WORRY... . The truck had a Quad link coil sprung SOLID AXLE. It was also a Cummins The DC employee driving with the Manufacturers plate was pretty tight lipped, but I could look from outside. Looks nice, and still solid axle. :D :D

Hemi power

Yup... the mighty hemi returns...

If memory serves, it'll be about 325 horsepower or so...

And a new V-10 that's supposed to have quite a bit more power too.

I'm going to assume here, that they expect quite a bit more power from thier Cummins engine, as well.

There's actually some of the new Dodge Crew Cabs on the road. Seen one the other day, and hte dealer has 2 on his lot.

I'm disappointed with the smaller back doors, but my 65 is that way, and my friend's 2001 PSD crew cab is too, just not quite as much. I think the idea was to keep the truck from growing to obscene lengths with a full size box...

The back doors are not THAT short... they are compared to the front, but don't forget just how long those front doors are. They added darn near 18 inches to the door length from 1st gen to 2nd.

If you've ever crawled into and out of a Suburban's middle or back seat, you'd realize that they dont' have much of a door, either... and what's there is badly placed (too far back) as well.

Every design is a compromise... . let's see if this is the right one.

compromise... yes but thay are going to compromise me right in to a duramax. The 1500 is just too small. If I want small I have a quad cab dakota. I was waiting to get a cummins 4 door 3500 next year. Now back to GM I wil have to go.

SEmerson,

I would not run back to a GM (Great Mistake) too quick. The 2002 GMC HD 4 Door S/B Durapuke / Allison interior I did not feel was as comfortable as the new Dodge. Two friends have new trucks, 1 the GMC, and 1 a new Dodge 1500. The Dodge looks small, but the rear seat room is about the same,as the GM. Plus, the Dodge has a higher seating position, which lets your legs hang more instead of needing to stick out in front like a car. Plus the 2003 3/4 and 1 Tons DO have a SOLID front axle, Not some SISSY IFS like the GM's. If you like trucks, then you do not need car suspension in them, Long Live The Solid Axle..... Plus the new Cummins is supposed to be 305-310 HP and 550 ft/lbs of torque... .
