My early '04 305HP 6spd came to me with a dealer installed Dodge/Cummins exhaust brake installed right below the turbo. I have never been able to get it to work - the led light on the shifter mounted switch illuminates, but no exhaust brake action. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or troubleshooting information on these units? I really want to get this thing working for when I pull my trailer.

Thanks,

Keith

Thank you for your reply - your link took me right to the information section; I printed out the installation instructions which include troubleshooting info. When I bought this truck, the vacuum line from the pump to actuator was disconnected. I didn't think much of it and repaired the line. Reading the Jacobs info, I now know that running the pump without a vacuum load will kill the diaphram #@$%! I will do a little more checking, but sounds like I will be calling Geno's to get a new diaphram . . . any other ideas?

Have clean undies handy, when you kick it on the first time, you might be so overjoyed with the sound and action, it might be too exciting..... just saying!:):):)

I'm sure of that! A friend of mine pulls a big trailer and told me it would set me forward in the seat when I got it working and turned in on while decelerating with a load on . . .

Install a vacuum gauge in the line... . you should have minimum of 25" of vacuum... . or pull the line and see if it will stick to the back of your wrist... . there should be enough vacuum for the line to stick to a section of soft skin...

When you buy the new pump there are 2 options, full pump and diaphragm only. It sounds like you need the diaphragm only, so that will save you money.

I would also to a leak check, as a leak is the #1 killer of the vacuum pump.
