Turbo Housing

I recently had my timming housing replaced at the local dodge dealer due to rocketing dowel pin. When I got my truck back It ran like a dog. I finally regained some power by fixing three air leaks the mechanic left me and replacing the air horn gasket. I talked with the mechanic several times and he said he hasn't done anything to rob me of power but the difference is substantial. He also assured me that he set the timing back to the original setting. My truck still runs pretty good but it is not what it was before the dealership got it. plus it seems to smoke more now. I would appreciate any help.

Could you please tell me at what miles on the odometer did the pin fall out?
And when did this happen? I have a 97 which
I called up about at the customer service number. They told me they have no records of dowl pins falling out on 97 trucks. Was this fixed under the 100,000 mile engine warranty?

KEEP THOSE TEENY BOPPER POT-HEADS AWAY FROM THE TRUCK!

I never had ANY trouble with the truck until those wannabe mechanics phucked with it! I have been "chasing" bugs ever since!

grtescpa, after using the jig method of containing the dowel pin on 7 trucks in the last few days the only one that was partially out was a '97 with 62k, it was very close to being all the way out. This was on 2-'94s, 2-'95s,2-96s and one '97. Your odds with my experience aren't good. If there is no record of your truck's gear cover being replaced get in line for a jig and do it, it is a very easy fix for peace of mind.

Timing is off. If you can justify it, buy the Miller kit, do it yourself and then you will know and feel confident again.

Do you still have the pin jig? I might even consider coming over the pass to draw on your experience and help #ad

My truck had 97,000 miles on it when the dowl flew and it was covered under the Cummins engine warranty. There is a shop that has a good reputation for injector pumps , they said they would reset my pump timming for $170. 00 they also said they would not advance it only set it back to top dead center.

Who knows if they put your locater pin holder in the right spot either, so you had better find TDC without using the blasted locator. My locator was out 2 degrees from the factory on my 97.

I would take the truck to someone who can do it properly and take the bill back to your dealer.

I'd just assume not go back to the dealership for anything ever! I think I'll buy the miller kit and time it my self. I might even take it to 16 deg.

You guys have convinced me. Where do I get a miller kit and what does it cost?

Thanks in advance.

Bill, Snap-On sells the kit for about 3 dollars cheaper than miller so it basicaly depends on your preference. There both about $230 something.
