My personal favorite (maybe its just where i live) is, "man that thing is loud, you should cut out your muffler and make it really loud!"

I one time almost got into a full blown argument with some idiot at the Dodge dealership (not an employee) no less. He informed me that '94 was the first year Dodge used Cummins engines, and the previous owner of my truck transplanted the Cummins into it. Nothing I could say would convince him otherwise.

Those are the ones that really get me. Not the people who know nothing about vehicles, but the people who THINK they know everything about vehicles. Like the Ford guy who tells you that you are an idiot for thinking your diesel doesn't have glow plugs, because "all diesels have glow plugs"

Chris

You are not alone. (I'm cheating because mine isn't a Dodge, but reading this thread is fun. )

I called the company that made my Motorhome (1990) for some info last summer. They have a pretty good rep for service but time does pass.

When I told the guy on the phone that my rig was a front engine diesel, he laughed and informed me they had never made a front engine diesel, and someone must have switched it out. I asked if he could get the oldest person in the place and call me back.

Sure enough I got a call back and was told they had made a few but they didn't hear from them often.

hahah, working for a trucking company as a fleet mechanic, and talkint to lots of drivers, you can emagine some of the rediculous crap i hear. some guys know just enough to be dangerous, others know nothing and thing the know it all.

my teacher at diesel school has a zero tollerance for that kinda crap. he is a firm believer in saying what you mean, and meaning what you say, and KNOWING what your talking about. one thing, if i call and engine a motor he wont listen to the rest of what im saying, cause a diesel is and engine, a motor is a device that electricity is applied to, to create work. and engine uses air, fuel, and compression to create work. also, if a call a cranking motor a starter, same thing. its a cranking motor, it dosent start the engine, its cranks it. the starting sequince "starts" the engine. compression, heat, fuel. haha, it gets pretty funny some times. get a new student say, "clyde my motor is leakin a lot of oil" an he'll say, "thats funny ive never know a motor to leak oil?"

My buddy is a master mechanic and he always does this to us. We say something about "the motor" and he'll replay with, "motor huh? well, which motor are we talking about? then he'll start to list all the various motors in a vehicle until he's had his laughs.

t his one should get a darwin award, duh yous know dhat forud owns cummins. That one makes me want to grab the idiot by the neck and bite his nose off. Yeh i know that thats real smart of ford to sell the best eng. to their rival and put a 2nd rate eng in the ford super Do-Do.

Yeah, I've heard that one. I like to tell people that say that "about 15 years ago, a guy at Ford found the biggest problem with the company, so he circled it and highlighted it in blue. "

By the way, "southpaw", I like to see the video game reference. Nice touch.

I had a lady that asked me if my truck was a stick shift.....

(This is after we had driven almost an hour and arrived at our destination, the whole time I was rowing through gears)

haha, ive got that a number of times, mostly girls, and some guys that ruin the male reputation. the say, "wow this thing is a stick???" no its not a stick, i just love making a habit out of raising my left leg and slaming it to the floor and moving this metal pole with my right hand, that is randomly placed ontop of that strange hump on the floor. :-laf another favorite. "so does this thing actually run on diesel fuel?" hahha, nope its a diesel that runs on gas. i do tend to run high test in her though :D :-laf
