I purchased a set of Dodge FogLamps for my truck. The dealer stated that they came with a replacement factory headlight switch which included the pull to operate option. WRONG. They have a seperate rocker switch.

I desire to install these an have them operate as though they were installed at the factory. Is this possible? I do not want to install the rocker switch. Yes I am willing to purchase another headlight switch wich is for the fog lamps option.

When I purchased the add-on fog lamps I was also surprised to find that the kit had a seperate rocker switch. I went ahead and installed it and am glad I did as it allows the fog lamps to be used with either the low or high beams. Heck, you can even run the fog lamps with no other lights or parking lights if you want. The high beams on the 03 are'nt that hot so I like being able to keep my fog lamps on. Also, the rocker switch looks right at home on the panel so unless someone is familiar with the 'factory' switch they'd never know the difference.

I was the same way at first thought I had to have the pull switch for the factory look, but the way they installed it, it has a factory look to me. My parts man even offered to give me a new pull switch to try it out and see if it would work, but the shop tech told me he always used the rocker on all his installs. I don't know if it would work, or not with out splicing or jumpering. Oo.

factory fog lamp install

DC sells the factory fog lamp kit with a wiring harness, relay and a rocker switch. you then have to purchase the head light switch with the pull on feature (about $70). when you install take the wiring harness, relay, and rocker switch and throw them out! remove and replace the headlight switch and plug in your factory fog lamps to the pig tails that come from the factory wheather you ordered fog lamps or not and turn them on, no splicing, cutting nothing, everything is there and just works!

or you could fish the wire harness, find a place to secure the relay, cut and splice the correct wire's and cut you dash borad up trying to put the rocker switch. then hope you have made all the correct splices and all the wiring is correct and you haven't forgot anything and then pray when you push the rocker switch that you new truck won't go up in flames:confused:

it is your money but I personally perfer to spend the extra $90 and use the wires the factory installed for me at no extra charge!:--)

Perhaps DC changed their policy midstream as to what they were going to install in the stock truck.

My '03' had NO wires going to the fog lamp location and NO relay for the fog lamps installed. Thus, at least with my truck, throwing the fog lamp kit wiring harness, relay, etc. out would be a very big mistake.

The only splice I recall the kit asking for was the one wire that they wanted me to splice into the low beam circuit. Because I wanted to be able to run my fog lamps at times other than just when the low beams were on, I ran that wire to the + battery instead. Thus no splices.

I believe mine was same set up as dcscott. The service writer told me that some trucks were factory wired for the fog lights and some were not, that came from the factory, without fog lights.

as I said in my experinace both my 99 and my 03 had wires etc all that was needed was the head light switch and the lights themselves. it would be real easy to check, look behind the bumpers in the area of where the fog lights would mount and see if the wires are there! if not back to plan A!Oo.

I looked behind my bumper about the wires for the fog lights. My truck has wires on the drivers side but not the passenger. Does that mean mine is prewired? Does the passenger side light wire route across to the drivers side when you install the fog light kit? If it is prewired, will I be able to use mine with high and low beam? Will I be using the rocker switch or replace the headlight switch?

Foglamps

I have the wires on the drivers side of the truck. I ordered a jumpr wire from Dodge and the Stock (with Fog lamps) switch. As soon as they come it I am going to give this a try. Luckily the dealer that I ordered this setup from stated that if they do not work he will take them back as long as they are undamaged.

I will post more when I get the parts.

Mine also had the wiring harness on the drivers side behind the bumper and I questioned the service tech about that, that I thought mine was already wired from the factory, but just came without the fog lights option. His response was he didn't have any ideal what that plugin was for, but it was not for the fog lights, he said. Didn't seem right to me. Part's man offered me a pull switch to try on my own, but not being a electrical guru I did not want to chance it not working and frying something. He said they had to go by the book and use the rocker switch if they done the install on the lights. I still like the install they did, that rocker still has the factory look to me. :

Please let us know how it works and also please post the part numbers.

Having the correct Part numbers makes a trip to the dealer a whole lot faster.

From whet I gather you need a new factory switch the fog light kit and a jumper wire anything else fuse or relays?

SO far I have been informed that there is no reason to do any splicing or add additional realy becasue they are already there. I will find out when the parts get here. My dealership is also anxiously awaiting the results.

I wish that I could get a complete wiring diagram for this truck. Sure would make it easy these answer these questions. I do have to admit that I am surprized that a DC rep has not chimed in yet.

Hopefully the parts will be in this week-end and I will find out.

I have not receieved the parts from my dealer yet. Once they are here I will install that night.

I did email DC and they enformed me that I should be able to install lights, jumper from drivers side to passengers side, and new headlight switch.

Funny thing is they told me that this qiuestion should be answered by dealership. If they only knew, all the dealerships couldn't answer the question.

I will copy email tonight and post original from DC.

FOG Lights - without cutting or splicing.

Oo. Oo. It works - I did not splice any wires. :D Changed the headlight switch, installed Jumper, and used only the HELLA lights that came in the fog light kit. Total cost $200. 00 Yes it is expensive: however, it is original Mopar without splicing Oo. Oo.

DC Stated

Thank you for contacting DaimlerChrysler regarding your '04 Dodge Ram 2500. The switch and the jumper should be all you need - however we don't know what that wiring looks like or how it is configured. You might need to utilize a volt meter and you may need to change a fuse. We really would not be able to advise you further - I would recommend you discuss this further with the dealership where you purchased the truck or from where

I asked this:

I have a 2004 Ram 2500 CTD. It did not have fog lamps from the factory.

I ordered a Fog Lamp package # 82208102. I was told it came with a replacement headlight switch - it does not (it has a rocker switch) and requires a wire tap.

I have ordered the headlight switch for foglamps #560455378AC and the jumper for the fog lamps #56045501AC. Will this allow me to use the fog lamps without splicing wires? Will this work at all? I have called several dealerships and none can answer the question. It has wiring hanging down on the drivers side which is unused.

I am glad it worked out for you. as I stated, I did the same for my 99 and my 03. the headlight switch change out is a "no brainer" as it just plugs in, the contacts for the fog light are already there! and I just don't like the idea of having to cut/drill my dash to mount an "ugly" rocker switch!

I am very pleased that I did not have to drill the dash or splice any wires. Looks great.

I guess now I need to find somebody that needs a foglamp rocker switch and wiring loom. ;-)

Fog light switch

Does the 'stocker' switch allow you to run the fogs without running the driveing lights at all? or allow you to run them with the high beam on too?

Would it give you more flexability to use the rocker switch instead of the 'stock' switch?

I got my lights today, but the 'stocker' switch is on order and on the way. . maybe I would be better off without it?
