Today I had changed my oil and oil filter on the 2006 and went ahead and changed the fuel filter too even though it was a bit early. I had one left over from a previous Genos kit so I slapped it in. I had just purchased a 1- 1/8" wrench so I could keep a filter ready in the truck if ever needed so rather than order a whole new Genos 4/2/1 kit I thought I would just go to the dealer and pick up another fuel filter.

He looked in the computer and came back and advised he had the OLD ones but not the new upgraded filter. Not being aware of the difference I asked a few questions and was informed it would be over $46 for the filter.

I asked him to confirm because that sounded crazy based on genos being 75 for the 4/2/1. He confirmed $46.

Is it really that much better I wonder? And also is the Genos premium filter for the 06 the same in terms of filtration?

Thanks

Don

the dc filter is a fleetpride just like the one from geno's check the number in white stamped on top of the dc filter then check one from geno's. The dealer just charges an arm and a leg and 1/2 of your firstborn for them.

The old filters are 10micron filtration. Newer filters are 7micron filtration. New TSB issued by Dodge 2 or 3 days ago recommends 7micron filtration.

I priced one at the dealer for my 2001 the other day and they wanted 75$+TX!! The local diesel shop had one for 24$. I guess that is why they are named STEALERSHIP.

Try your local Cummins shop or go to Geno's. I get the Fleetgaurd 19579 for $7. 67 from the shop. Haven't priced priced the 191800 yet. The one and only one the stealership changed for me cost $80. They ain't touched it since.

I just bought a case of 12 Fleetguard 7 micron for $11/something each at a big rig repair shop in my area. About a $1. 50 ea. more than the old 10 micron.

I just exchanged (8/25/06) two, 10 micron, FS19579 fuel filters ($14. 79ea. ) for two, 7 micron, FS19800-E's ($16. 65ea. ) at Cummins Rocky Mountain (Phoenix Branch).

Why can Cummins sell the identical filter for almost $30. 00 less than the Dodge dealer, & still make a profit? Enough of a profit to be able to build a brand new, beautiful store & shop.

I have nothing against a business making a profit. I owned my own business for over 25 years. The whole idea is to be profitable. But, what some of the dealers are doing seems to be taking advantage of their customers. Fortunately, for us, "the word gets out" about what's going on & we are able to save some serious money on parts.

Thanks to all of you that contribute this information.

I priced a flow control actuator at both Dodge and Cummins. Dodge was about $190 Cummins came in at $90. Cummins had it in 3days, Dodge said at least a week perhaps longer. There is profitability and then there is usery. I know damn well no one is selling this stuff at a loss, so given the price differences for filters and parts, Dodge is pretty much bending customers over the counter.

10-4, Mr. Klenger. I agree, completely.

Shortly after I first joined the TDR, there was an article in the magazine written by an Accountant. At that time, a $196. 00 Diesel Tax Credit was being offered by the IRS. Few folks new about it. The Gentleman gave the tax form# so, I went down to the IRS office & picked-up a couple of forms, took them into my CPA, at tax time, & got that amount of money taken off my taxes. A very nice savings. (My CPA didn't know a thing about it. Guess you can't know everything. )

That one tip paid for over 5-1/2 years subscription costs for the magazine. Needless to say, I was overjoyed!!!

The TDR can save you from making a lot of, very expensive, mistakes.
