P.E.T.A. won't be happy about this...

Chad,

I think my rambling may have been a little confusing. I was directing my comments toward Toady. It seems to me you were doing a nice job of trying to take the high road until he went too far. I don't have a problem with how you handled him. My point was that he was out of line, not you. When I said "you" I was directing that toward him. Read my edit, it should be clearer now.

Sometimes you gotta let someone know where the bear ****s. Matt sounds like you got the wrong idea about Marines. They are more than willing to whatever it takes. Did you do something to **** one off once?

"Sure there may be better a better woman out there". Chad,I would definitly hide that post from Momma, mine would put my jaw in a new time Zone for that. You would have to pull on the old flak jacket and get ready for incoming.

I have been on all ends of the brand wars and can say most of it is good natured ribbing. But when someone who you don't know pulls something out of his/her a$$ its time to shut em up. Like Chad says, let them know where you stand and they have crossed the line. At the drags everyone ribs each other about brand and motors, but when the chips are down and someone needs help making a race everyone chips in. I would hope we are all that way,we all drive diesels and love them. I would pull over for any diesel in
trouble and I think we all would.

I've never had any trouble with Marines. The few I have dealt with have been very professional. But remember this: Nice guys won't storm a beach like a Marine!

Sorry Fireman, I get all fired up and try to type fast, read fast, react fast. I will see if the Doc can get me some crack or something to calm me down when I get on this thing #ad

Having been a Mopar only guy my entire adult (and some of my juvenile as well) life, I've caught more grief than anyone else I know about my choice of vehicles. However, in the end, nobody has ever had any evidence that anything they drive is better.

I guess, after about 20 years of being pummelled over my choice of rigs, I'm not nearly so sensitive... But I'm also more adamant than I ever was #ad

Update to my post above -

1999 Chevy had to have $96 worth of power window parts today and several hours of labor. That makes 4th time the right window has failed!

The truck runs 99% of the time on paved roads.

I had a ford- my father-in-law wouldn't let me park near his dodges- afraid they would get infected- now I can use the driveway and the back door- not the pasture- #ad

That is a tough one, I had 3 Ford trucks 74 78 and 88 prior to the 2 Dodges, but was a mopar fan long before that , starting with a '69 Dart 340. Can't say any of the Fords were bad trucks but I do prefer the ride and driving better in dodge. As to the Navistar powered Dodge I might have still done it, but it is hard to say since that isn't a choice we have to make.

An honest question for the group...

I own a new Powerstroke Excursion as well as a few B series powerd trucks (not Dodge) and have owned a 6. 2 powered dualy. Not new to the diesel thing at all having grown up on a farm and all. (The most reliable vehicle I have ever owned was a 1964 FARGO with a Big Block 318, I am not Dodge loyal but I have owned some good ones... )

I would love it if my excursion had a 12 valve Cummins, pretty much be my ideal rig. There are very few Ford diesel guys who wouldn't take the Cummins in a Ford. Shoot, Cummins in a Ford should have its own discusion group over on the F-D page.

Now the interesting question. Since this is a diesel pickup group I will make the broad asumption that everbody likes them better than gas motors in pickups. Since this is a Dodge unbashing thread I will assume most of the guys reading are pretty Mopar loyal. Of the guys who love Dodge, (not just the ones who bought the Cummins with the Dodge wrapper) would you still say the Dodge truck is better than the Ford, if Dodge had the DT444E and Ford had the 6BTA. It is my opinion, (and we know what opinions are worth... ) that a Cummins powered Ford would dominate the diesel truck market segment. Any inteligent arguments against that opinion ?

My fiancee called me from work as a waitress at a truckstop, someone's pickup had died, and she wondered if I could help. Tunred out to be a PSD. The idler pulley had broken. There was a mechanic there who said that it was normal at 70K. I asked him if he knew anything about Dodges puking stuff at 150K. "The only thing I know about Dodges is they're underpowered. " Uh huh. HTen why did I pass so many PSDs in my 92 STOCK pickup this sumer pulling a bigger trailer than they were? I told him the 2000 I drove wouldnt even hold OD up the hill outside Windsor at 60. He said it was normal for the autos. Both my first Gen trucks will pull Vail Pass at 70+ in high gear. He mentioned being impressed with the Duramax, saying it pulled a 7K trailer up Vail Pass at60 mph. Woooo WOoooo. Big Fri*kin deal. I asked what gear it was in, and he said drive. I just shut up and turned my head. This was a blithering idiot, and he worked in the shop at Johnson's Corner. My truck pulled the horse and trailer down to Monument at 65+ (4. 10s #ad
)and did just fine with a 3 horse steel trailer with a 1000# horse. Didnt even know it was back there, till we got south of Castle Rock, then I had to get boost over 10 psi. According to one guy I worked for, that is a big a$$ load. Maybe for a PSD.

While on the subject of underpowered vehicles, why are none of the car magazines not impressed with the Cummins? They are so impressed with the Duramax and Allison. ANd the PSD. I am not impressed with either one, outran a D-max in my fiancee's 84 626. That's right, a 2 bbl, 5 speed, Mazda with 155K.

Keep on Rammin. I plan to get another after horseshoeing school. Selling the 93 and going on the leftover money from the sale.

DD,it is the acceleration factor and the V-8 factor. They seem to believe that aceleration is the way you gauge power, most of them would know torque if it reached out a bit them. They automaticaly believe that if it says V-8 on the truck it is more powerful. That and the fact that Dodge has done more in the past few years to turn down the Cummins(to keep there stock trannys). Well every dog has its day,but when those stock Durastrokes try to pass this old Dodge they better be ready for a suprize.

Oh I can pull Monarch pass at 45 to 50mph and have to back out in the corners. This is while pulling 30'fifthwheel and 17'boat behind it. No problem, except for the Durastrokes that get in my way.

Not sure if I'm eligible to answer - I think I bought the Cummins with the wrapper. #ad

If it wasn't for the Cummins, I might be driving a Toyota right now because of their reputation for quality. I think Dodge is making a mistake getting away from Dana axles, and will probably make the same mistake on the engine in a few years. Yes, I think a Cummins in a Ford wrapper would be VERY competitive.
As to Dodge overall quality:
MINUS: 1) My 3rd gear clash is taking forever to break in. Just now getting OK.
2) I have a mild steering wander; heard so many bad things about dealers I'm considering living with it instead of letting them touch my truck.
PLUS: Will hit 30k next week; fluid and filter changes is ALL that I have needed.
