P.E.T.A. won't be happy about this...

Ever have people you dont know or care for blow you some sh** just because they see someone else do it?

Get this. As most of you know, my intelligence lacking brother-in-law, and father-in-law are always harassing me about my vehicles. They are big GM fans.

Well, I let them get by with it because they are kin, and it would break the wife's heart if I let them know what I think. Toady one of their helpers who is 10 years older than me tried to play the game as I was washing/waxing Big Red at the in-laws shop. He walks by and I politely say "Hi Jeff, what's up". Just looking at red piece of sh** #ad
(this is the 2nd time he has done this, the last time I just laughed it off). "Excuse me?" I say. Just looking at this red hunk of sh**. Still being polite, I say "why is that?". He says because its a Dodge, with a semi retarded grin on his face.

I figured it was time to do this guy a favor before he mouthed the wrong person some day and really got himself in a bad situation and ended up on the receiving end of a 2x4.

I said, "Let me explain something to you. #ad
My in-laws can get by with that because they are family. I dont know you. We are not friends, pals or old drinking buddies. I dont tell you about your junk blazer that never runs, or about your ugly wife who ran off with some kid half her age, or your house that is about to fall in. The next time you say something to me it better be a hello, like I have been saying to you for over a year now with no reply, because if it's not, and has to do with anything I own or am associated with being junk or stupid or a piece of sh**, I will knock you on your a$$ quicker than you can count to 3. He must of cried to the in-laws because they asked me about it. I told them I was trying hard to keep my cool but he wasn't making it too easy on me. I explained how I was doing him a favor before someone else taught him the hard way.

I hate being a prick, but if you dont have something nice to say to someone, just keep your mouth shut.

Chad,
I must agree with you on this. There are a few guys where I work and they give me a rash of sh*t and are always saying things bad about Dodge or any Chrysler product. I have been a die hard Mopar guy for a long time and I get sick and tired of hearing these pricks whine and moan. They think brand X is better and all that BS. I just remember the old saying "to each his own".
I guess if everybody liked the same thing the world would be sort of a dull place huh?

Chad, Sounds like my brother-in-law... he will talk about stuff he knows nothing about, make dumb a$$ remarks... it's just stuff a loser must do. They do this to get attention, any attention negative or not... well guess what I NEVER would give him the pleasure! 24 years and never did! #ad

I have found that if you "agree" with them it makes them squirm like little nervous dogs... kind of like when you smile BIG and wave at that a$$hole who gives you the "salute" on the freeway... . drive them NUTS!!

Pink Floyd had a verse or maybe it was a tune "Harrass the nervous"

Dad said "Don't pay attention to I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER unless you step in it!"

when something breaks on a GM or Ford and it always does. . it's "routine maintenance"
but if it's Dodge then it's just a POS
it's like when I was over at this mechanics house, he's lookin' over my engine after putting on a new slave cylinder... one of his customers pulls up on a 96 or 97 PSD gets out
and starts lookin under my hood, and says, "you shoulda bought a real truck"... the mechanic's wife looks at me with a disgusted face... I turn to the PSD guy and ask him how long it's been since he's tested his coolant pH... he gets a confused look on his face and says what do you mean... I explained "cavitation" to him,
then he asks richard(the mechanic) about what I told him... . richard nods and says yes that is a a problem if the cooling system isn't monitored... the PSD guy just says "oh, can you check that for me?" and not another look my way... I really wanted to gun it when I took off and smoke on that guy but didnt have the heart to.

Did any of you catch this in a previous TDR book. Best thing I ever heard. It goes. Jesus must have been a ford man. Because he was always walking or riding a jacka$$

Guess I'm lucky. My Bro in law drives a Mazda, and knows it's a POS. #ad

He's a pretty decent guy also. We think along the same lines on many issues.

My Uncle just bought a Ford and it really is a nice truck. He has been a Ford owner all of his life. However, he was seriously considering a Dodge after riding with me a half dozen times.

Boss and co-workers all are Ford and Chevy men. I am always getting a ration for my choice of trucks. One day one of the younger kids took off from work in his chevy and decided to blow my doors off. Since my Cummins was still cold I let him do his thing. The next day I heard all about how chevy was king and how he beat on my piece of &^%$. Well I thought it was time for a lesson so I brought the old Dodge out to work the next day. He did the same thing thinking he was going to beat on the ole doll. I let him get up beside me and eased down on her, hell I didn't even have to open the secondarys and he slowly dissapered!

Asked him the next day if he wanted to go pull with the Blue Ox. His awnswer was an emphatic NO.

I'm with you Chad!!

I owned two 1988 GMC trucks, a 1993 Chevy truck, a 1997 Chevy truck, and also have a 1999 Chevy.

My 2001 Dodge has a tougher suspension and has been on many, many rough roads. I know for a fact the interior is put together better than the squeaking, plastic rattling GMs that I owned. The 1999 is a real POS. Both electric windows have been repaired multiple times. Rear leaf spring replaced. Hydraulic lifters leak down. The truck has 46,000 miles.

Some people at work give me grief. I wouldn't pi$$ in their ears if they had brains that were on fire!

I've seen several of them taking rides from others to pick up their Toyotas, Chevys, and Fords.

My truck has 19,000 miles in 12 months. The only thing that broke was a heated mirror and a heated seat. Both got too hot! Both were replaced with multiple apologies from the dealer.

The Dodge is pulling something all the time too.

People say the engine will outlast the truck. We will see.

My brother in law has been driving a little Nissan truck for over 10 years... great truck! Then, I flipped him my keys over Christmas get-together... he and his wife went for a 30 minute drive... he's all fired up to join TDR and is actively searching for a CTD!!!! How cool is that?

Cool thread.
My Dad and brother in law both drive PSD's. My brother in law never says anything. When my truck was stock, my Dad was always talking trash about my poor sickly Ram. Well, the last time we went somewhere with him pulling his trailer and me pulling mine, after a little help from Mark at TST, the trash talking has stopped #ad
I have several customers who drive Fords. We enjoy a little trash talking back and forth. I probably even talk a little more than they do but I would never call someone else's truck a POS or seriously put down their truck. When talking to the Ford guys, before the exchange is over I tell them that I really think the Fords are ok. The shivy guys are on their own #ad

Chad,

Here's what I think of Toady.
It's too bad there are immature yahoos like that who mascarade as adults. I thought that kind of thing got left in high school. If he's that insecure about himself or his truck, it's really sad. I don't have any problems with Fords or GMs. Would I buy a GM? No. Maybe a Ford, though. The point is, just because I like Dodge the best, and I believe they're the best, doesn't mean the other brands aren't okay for others. I can appreciate another guy's allegiance to another brand without calling his truck a piece of junk. And there are a lot of nice Ford and GM people out there too. I appreciate a guy taking pride in his truck or car - even if it's a brand I don't care for.

Now, I have to admit, it's fun to bash and brag - in jest. But I think saying that to someone's face like that is insulting, demeaning, and just plain rude. It sounds like Toady can't feel good about himself without cutting someone else down.

Having said all that, I don't blame you, Chad. I wouldn't take that crap either. Once he starts it, the gloves come off.

I'm with you guys. I don't believe trash talk does anybody any good, except to make the guy with the small pecker feel better about himself. Sorry moderators if I just said a bad word #ad
... I have always driven Chevys until now, and I really like my Dodge/Cummins. I'm sure everyone here thinks the Cummins is the best diesel we can get, but I don't think the PSD and Duramax deserve to be called flowerchoke/duracrap, etc like I see alot. If it weren't for those motors, our's would still be rated at 215hp!

I'm not brand loyal by any means or insecure about myself or my property, or my family and friends. Have owned 5 times more new Chevys than this red Dodge. Heck, the old man is a retired GM worker, my brother works for Chrysler and an Uncle who works for Subaru. Your missing the point Fireman.

Its mine, not his. My wife is the apple of my eye. Sure there might be better woman out there, but that's not the point, she's MY wife. If someone said something rude about her, I would respond in the same manner... has nothing to do with being insecure. Its about not taking any sh** from some $8 an hour 40 year old idiot who couldn't afford the tires on the truck he was calling junk.

Call it right or call it wrong. I dont like to fight, but if you walk in uninvited blowing me, my family, or my friends a ration of sh** in a non joking style, I will direct some constructive criticism your way, just like I did with the village idiot mentioned above. If that doesn't work we will take it to the next level. I will keep upping the heat a notch until my intentions are well understood. I have found the tongue does a far superior job of making my intentions clear in these situations. Rarely have I ever had to physically reach out and touch someone to get them seeing the errors of their ways.

This doesn't work for everyone, but its my style and it is how I handle minor issues before the start escalating into serious problems. Its how I handled things as a Non Commissioned Officer in the Marine Corps with great success, its how I handled things as a shift Sergeant as a Deputy sheriff with the same success, and it is still how I handle things when my people that work under me run into problems from other groups and require assistance at CAT. Its called taking care of your own. You will never amount to anything in life if you let people belittle and ridicule you out of ignorance. Get a set of morals and values and stick to them. If your wrong, be man enough to admit it, and if your right, hold your ground.

I do like the line you used about immature yahoos impersonating adults. I will keep it in the back of my head the next time I have to have a talk with someone.

I like a little good natured ribbing once in a while, lets face it if it wasn't for the ol' Ford,GM,Dodge thing life would be very boring, also, My Theorie, They're all junk ,just find a piece you like and drive it . You can always count on one thing though if it's got tires on it you'll eventially have to work on it.
