Keep reading the Ford sites. Still puking coolant. Some have had heads off, some are in process of thinking they need heads off or EGR cooler tube issues etc. In fact a number of posts or threads. Even talk of recall/tsb on such. If I was NEW to diesels and was checking out the sites(which I read several diesel and gas sites) I would be very hesitant about a 05 Ford and even more so on a 04/03. Some REALLY LOYAL FORD truck owners but even some of the diehards are disgusted. My nickname in business was Hounddog. I check out everthing, both and all sides of whats involved. I do the same with VETS,Doctors, drugs, mortages etc. My outlook is the ANSWER is out there, just need to know were to find it or whom knows the real askinny on it. We HAVE SOME issues on OUR trucks. The Ford folkes have lots of BIG issues on theirs. Too big for my wallet or tastes.

First I'm not sure what you mean broad brushes the phrase? I just left THE DIESELSTOP. COM. Several posts about 05s puking coolant, loose headbolts and several posts on 04s and whom has just won their DSB hearings on buybacks and one waiting for a answer from his. One with a 05 with a LONG list of problems and repairs. A real LONG list. Your LINK was to the changes Ford made in 05 models. Thats all and well as the only way for them is UP compared to 03 and 04. But their still a far cry from a Dodge or DuraMax. Buy a Ford 6. 0 and keep us informed about it for the next few years. Actually the TRUCK thats getting RAV reviews is the 05 FORD with the NEW V10 so far.

I recently drove an 05 PSD excursion and was pretty dissappointed. The overall package was very nice, but the engine was gutless and the 5speed auto felt like it was dancing around trying to find the right gear.

Another thing, with the integrated brake controller. Cool idea, but it limits you to electric brakes. EVERY ford customer of mine that has ordered this has to install a Tekonsha Voyager control because the digital controller will fry an expensive brake system.

I've owned 4 cummins and 2 powerstrokes. Each have their upside and their down. I just think that Dodge currently makes the best overall package. A perfectly built truck with a sub-par engine is a poor package. At least the ford guys have more room to stretch out in the back while waiting for a tow-truck :-laf

I'm no fan of Ford, but that truck (girlfriends new '05 ford cc dually 6. 0l) was anything BUT gutless. Plenty of power hauling a loaded 3 horse 10ft living quarter trailer. We were pretty close to 14K pounds. Pulled the grapevine and never dropped below 55, coulda gone faster but traffic made me slow down.

For me, when it comes to my Work truck, I want the cummins, no matter what it is in. But when it comes to my cross country hauling truck, I'm gonna go for compfort. I'll choose the truck with the best and roomiest interior. They are all very close in power. But that truck will be disposable. It'll be traded in before the warranty is up. But when it comes to the truck that's in my sig, I'll be burried in it! :-laf

Considering buying a new diesel truck where DC, Ford and GM is concerned is pretty much like playing Russian Roulette - where the choice is 1,2,or 3 bullets in the cylinder when the spin is made and barrel put to your head...

You choose which brand YOU consider to be the 1,2, or 3 bullet choice, then pay your $$$, put the barrel to your head, and pull the trigger... :-laf :-laf

ME, I'll take MY chances with the 1-bullet Dodge/Cummins! ;) :p

LOL..... Love the analogy Gary, that was great... . That's what it really seems like too. When you drive off the lot, you almost expect a wheel to fall off or something after reading all the things that go wrong with new trucks... chevy, ford, or Dodge.

When I read the Diesel sites I don't get that impression at all. The Dodge sites do mention problems, vibration issues, pulls rights etc. But also lots of Bombing, mods etc. The Ford 6. 0 sites very few posts about bombs, mods etc. Lots of posts about oil leaks, blown engines, fuel dilution, oil shearing, looseing coolant, buybacks etc. The G. M. sites are kinda like our Dodge sites. Not at all like the Fords.
