You guys are missing the point of this thread... YOU'RE GOING TO BUY YOUR 16 YEAR OLD A MUSTANG GT?

I'm with these guys. GIVING a 16 year old a $27000 car (or whatever they cost) sounds a bit generous to me. But to each his own.

I was just at the local Ford dealer looking to get my 16y-o kid a new Mustang GT for Christmas

Um... will you be my Dad??? :)

When I turned 16, I asked my dad for a car, and he gave me a JOB!

Mustang GT for a 16 year old. Man, your kid must be one amazing lad!

We all know it "the car salesman's lip are moving". In fairness it seems there are more people trying to sell stuff they know nothing about. I was in a Sled dealer yesterday and the "salesman" couldn't even tell what track was on the machine. Doc

at 16 I had a Corvette. What is the problem with that. I have a good kid that is now driving my vintage Corvette to High School. I want my car back so he is getting a new car of his own. The kid is getting all A's, as did his 3 brothers before. Now, back to the issue. . Trucks and the Cummins motor :)

I think salesman from all makes go to the same bs school. Havn't found to many salsemen that know much about the vehicles they are selling. I think they're moto is If you can't dazzle them with brillence then baffle them with bs.

Geeeze, chill out a little. There are some salesmen that are members here and they seem to be decent folks. The two salesmen I dealt with at Yellowstone Country Motors in Livingston, MT were very good to me and I'm a low volume nobody. They kicked Dave Smith's bu++. So, I'm happy to promote their dealership.

Ford does not own Cummins. I am sure of that. I bought Cummins yesterday

Greg;

Want to trade?? Trade you Oldsmobile and AMC for it. .

No thankyou,

I think you should sell Olds and AMC to the Ford guys!!! They need all the help they can get. I can see it now, at a dealership near you, " Ya know, Ford owns Olds. " says the well informed salesman..... :-laf

Ya know, it really pisses me off when i hear somebody say something like" the Dodge truck is a dog w/out the Cummins". Why the hell did you buy it then? Surely no engine, no matter how good it is, would make you buy a "dog" truck, right? If i were you, i would run, not walk, down to the Ford dealer and get a new truck.

My 5 cents worth

Salesmen are people also... . you get all kinds. Now as far as the trucks;

You guys are going to kill me for this, yes I own a 04 Dodge Cummins 4x4 QC SRW, SWB Laramie 48RE and soon will have an 05 that will be almost identical. But I am a Toyota man myself and as mentioned before the Big 3 better get there act toghether when Toyota gets into the full size market... . even more so when their diesel comes out. I like Toyota's because my family has owned 10 of them (various Tacomas/Trucks/Land Cruiser), not to mention one car. They are VERY well build vehicles and the amount of abuse they take without breaking is far beyond what most vehicles are designed for. My brother and I tried to kill a 93 truck when we where kids with no luck. My father has an old Land Cruiser that still runs like a top despite years of abuse, and my 85 4wheeling rig is just that, a good wood truck after almost 20 years of serivce (it is far from stock however and the engine has been rebuilt). I have nothing against the Big 3 and I can't say anything bad about them as I have never owned one for an extended period of time. I bought a Dodge because Toyota at the time had nothing in the market like a 1 ton domestic truck and after driving the Fords and the GMC's I felt that Dodge best met MY needs. True I think that Cummins is the Jewel of Dodge and hands down one if not the best diesel truck engine period, but that does not mean that the PowerStroke and Duramax are junk. The 6. 0 is a good engine now that they have the injector issue resolved, and I have read great things about the Duramax. And in fact there where many things I like about the other two domestics and don't think you could go wrong buying them. Right now I am waiting on my replacment truck to come in as I had the dreaded 70mph vibe in my Dodge, but other than that it so far has been a great truck and works as advertised, time will tell however. But from my fairly extensive (12 yrs and 10 trucks) and unbaised experience those Japs are tough to beat.

Now to the Kid... ... . man there is not way bud, he is going to get himself in trouble. Get him into trucks and go buy him a used full size with a worn out gas 6 cylinder so he don't kill himself.

dpatt67,

Don't mean to try to start a war with You but, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of us bought Dodge's ( especially First and early Second Gen's. ) because of the Cummins Engine. I know I sure did!

I'm from Detroit, originally, (which, does NOT make me an expert in the auto industry) and I remember that Chrysler products were not too highly thought of. They were known for very good engineering but, poor execution(construction). My old neighbor worked for Chrysler and had to own one of their products, and he just hated the quality of construction. I remember listening to him scream at his car, in the morning. Basically, they were not very well thought of.

Back, when the government bailed -out Chrysler, one of the demands was that Chrysler get rid of their big-block, gas hog (440) motor. This put Dodge right out of the towing market, with their largest engine being the 360. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Dodge had only 3% of the truck market, then. Ford still had their 460 and GM had their 454.

For quite awhile, I had heard of the great reputation of the industrial quality Cummins Engine. Then, in '89, when Dodge first put these engines in their pick-ups, I started seriously looking at Dodges. I waited almost 3 years before I bought my first Dodge/Cummins, a '91. 5 W-250, in Aug. '91.

I talked with everyone I could find, who had one, and everyone loved them. That's when I bought mine.

I had always hoped that I could find a truck to tow my trailer that had good power, good fuel economy and good longevity. This was the first time I found that combination.

Had the Cummins engine come in any of the other trucks, I would have bought it. To me, it was the engine that provided the power, economy and longevity of the most expensive part of the truck. Personaly, I would have preferred to have this engine in a Ford. I had always heard Ford made the best, most durable truck.

I think a lot of people thought I was nuts buying this " stinking, noisy, diesel tractor engine". Now, most of them have diesel's, also.

I like my old '91. 5, with over 170,000 on it, so well that I bought an '03, 3500, 4X4, which I really like. Still have the '91. 5 and drive it almost every day. That truck has a lot of personality. It's kind of like having a four-wheel drive Harley-Davison. Loud, rough riding, but a lot of fun to drive.

So, this is my story! Turns out that the Dodge is a far better truck than I thought it would be. But, I still, originally, bought it because of the engine.

Again, I'm not trying to start a war, with You, but, I don't think my story's really all that unique. Have a great day and enjoy Your truck. Joe F. (Buffalo)

Im also with Buffalo on this. . As for the truck, Dodge makes a turd as far as the truck itself. Ball Joints, lousy seats, ultra thin metal, I could go on. I bought forthe Cummins. Ive owned 5 Dodges and only bought them for the Cummins. If I wanted comfort, i would be in a GMC or a Ford. Flame me if you wish, and I know that there are the usual few out there that look for a reply like this just to throw their unwanted opinion in, but the fact is, Dodge would never sell a truck if not for the Cummins. . Period!

I have a 72 Chevy 3/4 4x4 with tens of thousands of miles on it and it NEVER has had the problems that any Dodge Ive owned has had. even the bullet proof 350 is still plugg'n along. The body would repell a 9mm gunshot! Dont get me wrong, I love my new truck but... They just don't make them like they used to. When people ask me what I drive, I rarely say a Dodge truck. I just say a Cummins. :-laf :-laf :-laf That is why I bought my truck. Falme me for it and that will just go with what I stated earlier, if you know trucks, there are more old Fords and Chevys on the road after 20 years than Dodges. Just think, in 20 years, our kids will be buying the Cummins motors out of our old Dodges and transplanting them into a real truck after the Dodge body and frame fell apart. :-laf :eek: :-laf :cool:

Dad! I finally found you i want a a full DTT trany for Chrismas :) Just kidding :-laf I still have my first car i bought it my self for $400. 00 a 63 ragtop vw bug i am still restoring it i have all ways treated it as a new car because i have worked hard to pay for parts and upkeep. One of my frend was given a brand new Chevy 4x4 he beat the crap out of it blew the trany up the first mounth doing nuetral drops. Anyway your son sounds a lot more responsible than my freind. I bought a used Mustang GT years ago 93 5. 0 5 speed i loved that car it would get side ways so easy aspecialy in the rain and the insurance$$$$ well some one liked it so much they decided to steal it :( i never got it back. I bought a Bronco after that and i still own it im happy with the reliabilty that i have had from it. So if Ford ever puts a Cummins in there trucks i would not turn my nose down on one . Merry Christmas :D

i also agree on the engine combo i care less about the dodge body and frame that is why i put the cummins in a 86 chevy 1 ton and want to put one in my old 60 ford beats thesplitting cabs and beds on the dodges of its89 gen

Ummmmm... ... I see a lot of Dodge's driving around without the Cummins and I actually think those people bought them with real money. Either that or maybe theres a conspiracy PJ and Dodge buys a whole bunch of gas powered trucks and drives them around just to make people think that they can sell trucks without a Cummins. You actually blow as much smoke as a built Cummins in a truck pull.
