Buyers Remorse???

Need help buying new gen. cummins

Amen to that Morphious. I've got a '51 Chevy 1ton panel (longer than the 1/2) that I'm going to be doing the same thing to. 4x4, cummins, dually, 4drs. If I'm going to drop 30K into a vehicle, I want it to STANDOUT!!!

This is my second Dodge Ram 2500. The first was a gaser and I on;y got 15. 3 MPG over the time I had the truck. A friend told me that guys with the diesel were getting 20+. So I started looking for a used diesel.

So I would have to says both. I really like the looks of the Rams and I knew that Cummins make great engines ( My uncle worked for them in IN)

Cummins

I spent about two months looking at trucks. The SD is a nice truck, I almost ordered one for a few hundred below invoice. I thought the SD had much better brakes and I like a real center disconnect locking hub 4WD system. However Dodge added the rear discs and I heard to many cacklers when I was test driving the SDs. The Cummins engine sold me the Dodge truck, the first non Ford truck I have ever owned in over twenty years and the first non Ford truck ever in the family. Lots of my Ford owning relatives are now considering a Dodge.

I wanted the Cummins but not the Dodge,thats why I put one in a GMC.

cummmmmmmins, I drove the Ford and the Dodge the same day , same dealership. Wife liked the pretty Dodge I liked the Cummins !! The wife drove both and rapped the Ford till the rpm's started to go down. She said it was nasty !!

BOTH! Had a new 1998 1500 QC SLT. I [b}really liked[/b] that truck and it had 100,000 miles when we parted company. Then we needed MOre truck, a BIGer truck! I found out about TDR, began to study and learn, and BigMo was born and deliverd by the Dodge Stork!

Now I love my truck (just wish the fit/finish was as good on this one as on my `98 [:9]

BOTH!!! First Dodge was a "72" Power Wagon camper special. Was the only truck that could carry my 10 1/2' truck camper and pull the boat. Had several trucks after that couldn't do the same. When I started pulling 5ver/boat combination, needed more truck. Needed the Dodge and the power of the Cummins to accomplish the task... Nothing else compares!
 
In '96 the Dodge/Cummins was definately a better PACKAGE than the Ford/Navistar. In '00, I think the Dodge/Cummins is still a better overall package.

I could have bought just the Cummins but how would I have driven it?

I guess I fall into the "bought it for both" catagory. I think it is the "best" looking truck on market body style wise. I also think its got the best intior on the market, I think the SuperDuty interior is pretty pathetic for my tastes. To be honest I did test drive a Ford before ordering my truck just to see what it'll do, and the 6 Speed I drove didn't impress me. Just don't like the Fords.

The fact that the Cummins was in the Dodge was a definate "bonus". I enjoy both aspects of my truck.
 
Here's a different one for you. Orginally order a Phord Powered Puff but could'nt get the truck to be delivered--waited and waited but no truck delievery. Cancelled order and i was on the way home went into a Dodge dealership and got one hell of a deal. Later i found out thru the TDR just how lucky i was. Never looked back. Bought my 2nd Dodge 3500 because of the great Cummins engine--love that 6 speed.

Cummins , interior fit & finish, interior comfort. It sounds like real diesel should and not like a school bus.

The Dodge that is wrapped around it isn't a negative. Have you seen the poorly finished plastic looking interior of the ford? Take away the diesel engines from all 3 and NONE shine! They ALL have braking, transmission, stearing, rattle issues. The ONLY thing ford has going for them is the CrewCab.

And besides . . the worst play on a name for a Dodge is nowhere close to as bad as souper doody! #ad

Both. Cummins is the baddest diesel engine and the Dodge Ram is the baddest looking truck. But, I must confess, I had a sooper dooty crew cab deal worked, located and only needed to sign the paperwork. Fortunately, the forse was starong in my and drew me back to Dodge.

Next projected purchase: 2003 Crewcab Ram 4X4 short bed, hopefully with a real stout automatic. #ad
