Dodge Prospector Package?

Saw a nice looking old Dodge pickup on I-35 today, looked to be a 70's or early 80's truck, and it had the "Prospector" badges on it. I looked it over close from the other lane but couldn't see any obvious features that might have been "Prospector"ed.



Do any of you know what this package entailed? Was it just trim and such?

My grandpa's brother (who recently passed away) always bought Dodge pickups. One I remember well was rather odd as I had never seen another like it. He worked at a coal mine and it definately stood out. First it was a shortbed which wasn't too bad. Then it was bright orange from the factory. I've never seen this since. Finally it had the gold colored Prospector logs on the truck. If I remember it was a pick and shovel emblem. I dont know what it meant but it couldn't have been much cause this truck was plain jane, manual shift, slant 6, and funky looking dodge vinyl seating of the 70's.

Sounds like the truck I saw, but this one was a bronze metallic color.



Years back, I thought the old square-style Dodges were about the ugliest trucks on the road. They have grown on me over the years quite a bit (getting sick of tear-droppy, swoopy shapes). I thought this was a pretty nice looking truck, it was in good shape for its age.

My papaw (grandfather for those who don't know what the crap I'm talking about) always bought nothing but Dodge trucks. To this day there are two mid-70's Dodges in the weeds on our old place in Mississippi. He had a 350 with a 360 and 4-on-the-floor, a home-made cow-pusher bumper (we raised cattle then), and true duals with Cherry Bomb mufflers, one of which was rusted off before the muffler. That's the truck I learned how to drive a standard. The other was roughly the same model year or close 150 extended cab, sort bed with the 318 and 3-speed auto and 2-tone yellow-ish and white paint. I "think" this was a Prospector truck. The truck was old a worn out when I was there all the time back in '95, but I think it had some upgraded seats, A/C, and maybe a stereo with 8-track or something. Forgive me if I'm wrong, because I"m trying to remember a truck that didn't run and I only drove it once back in 1994 when I was more interested in driving the dually that sounded like a race car and could bark 3rd.
