2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Dodge question?

My MIL is about to buy what she thinks is a 99 dodge 1500 for her other daughter. Man that has it for sale says its a 1999. I say bunk. Its a extended cab truck, not a quad cab. Which is why i say something is fishy.

Its also in Texas Im in ohio. Is this the real deal or is something screwy with the title, salvage truck or the likes. Want to help, but dont want to squash her deal till i know for sure.

actually, they still offered the club cab in 99. It was still available to order until 2001. 5 model year. Crazy huh? There isnt many of them out on the road, but they do exist.

I've been hearing to watch out for vehicles coming from Texas. I guess there's a decent probability that it could have gotten flooded out during Katrina. I would recommend trying to find someone on the TDR that's in the area that might be able to go take a look at it.

Those reports aren't always accurate. When I traded in the wife's old car, the Carfax report said that it had never been in an accident even though it definitley has. I think they're only accurate as long as body shops and service facilities actually update the file. Not saying that they're worthless though. Just my $. 02.

Not really sure somewhere between Longview and Tomball and not real close to Stephenville. I wish it were.

Why not just pass on it. Why take a chance when I'm sure you can find all the trucks you want in Ohio. If your just considering a 1/2 ton gasser, look for a Toyota as well.

MIL is in Texas as is the truck. I just had a hard time beliving that it was a 99 when it was a extended cab and not a quad.

I hate to see anybody get taken advantage . Seams to me their a lot of crooked sticks in the woods and she dont need to buy one.

Katrina hit Louisiana and Mississippi, not Texas. If it's in the Houston area (Tomball), I'd be more concerned about flooding during TS Allison, but (despite the TV clips) most of Houston didn't flood even then.

True, but from what I hear, a lot of people from the Louisiana area took their vehicles over to Texas. I'm not sure how true it is, just what I read somewhere.

I had a 99 1500 club cab, with the 318 I could not keep a good plenum gasket in it, and it pinged all the time. There are some after market plenumes that will fix the prblem, I told my wife it was a lemon and we gotta sell it! Which I did and bought my current rig. It average 11. 7 to 13 miles per gallon

the car-fax is still a good idea. you are right not all things have been recorded. it is my understanding that it is not the car repair places that tell car-fax but its the insurance agencys. the vehicles that were insured in katrina and the flood areas would probably be recorded, the others not. insurance companys soild these car to salvagers. a lot of them were taken far from damage areas to be resold. i know we had a bunch in the seattle area. robert

My brother has a 99 club cab for sale in Pa. It is a Green/silver Club cab short bed with brand new tires, 90k on odometer, all options. It has the 5. 2 with a 5 speed & in great shape..... He is asking $7500 obo.
