4B into a 1st gen Dakota?

Has anyone installed a smaller diesel as a repower in a pickup? I'm thinking a repower of an older Ram with say the B3. 9 would give you a truck that could get close to 30 mpg and should be an easy bolt in conversion.

The four cylinder with the right setup should have near the same power as the early model 5. 9, no?

I'm thinking ahead to the $5 fuel prices...

"crew" cab

stacerbob you wouldn't happen to have a web site or phone # for that conversion? I have a 97' ext or club cab would love to make it a crew cab.

by the way the d-50 came with a mitsubishi diesel if you can find one.

my friend has a mini van with the mitsubishi diesel gets 50 mpg.

98 1500 4x4 w/gas hog 5.9 gas hmmm 3.9 ???

I will be following this. My 98 gas hog 4x4 has never had any power much less decent fuel mileage. Was wondering about the 3. 9 or 5. 9 conversion.

My brother and I have wanted to do this for years. He has a '98 half ton Ram that would do nicely but it is his daily driver for now. Maybe in the future. Cumminsstuff.com used to have a kit to do this. They may still have it, but I haven't looked in awhile. However, If I where going to do so wrenching to deal with high fuel prices, I think I'd spend my money and time on alternative fuels. A half ton 3. 9 would be cool though.

My wife has a 2000 Durango with the gas hog 318 I have my eye on an a 3. 9 I would love to swap it, guess it would be the same as a Dakota under the hood. Would the trans be Ok with the 3. 9?

4b

I've been pondering about this too. Dropping a 4B in one of these.

My first option would be an older 2 wheel drive Dakota. Must have manual transmission with good tall geared rear end.

Or an older Jeep cj. With a 4500 manual transmission.

Instructor at the school has a 4B in a 1/2 ton chevy 4x4 truck. He's getting just over 30 mpg. Thats with a automatic transmission too.
