I just got back from Cancun and I was suprised to see the 4000 on the side of some Ram trucks sold down in Mexico. The wheels look like they are off a 1. 5 ton truck. All these heavy trucks I spotted where 2nd Gens and gas.

Anybody know anything about these? I assume they are not sold here because of the braking system effectiveness at weight capacity.

Here's a link in Spanish to a truck dealer - I've not done a thorough search on these -

I saw one in Rock Island, Illinois, last summer. Had a 24V/manual trans. White, SRW, reg cab. Didn't get a chance to talk to the driver. He was just leaving as I pulled in.

I saw a couple in Mazatlan last month. They were 2wd but appear to use the 4x4 front end with 4 link and coilovers. The diffrence was a piece of tube rather than a diff in front. Caught my eye.

Yea, what is up with that? Some of the work trucks the military employes have the same front end you're talking about but they are 3500. Perhaps they are more durable than your conventional 2wd 3500  .

how can they consider them heavy duty by putting a hemi strapped to a 5 speed manual?

You mean a "FAKE" Hemi... . Not its not a real hemi.....

I'd like to get some Ram 4000 emblems. No idea where do get them from either same as the mirrors ICI is looking for

I'd like to get a pair of the 6500 emblems, been trying for YEARS (since '98 or '99) and never got a set. US dealers can't touch them, they're just not in the system, I'm told. I did find out once they're 125 pesos. That's like 3¢ US isn't it? :-laf

When I go down to Tijuana, I could call and order some and go pick them up. Does anyone know if there is a dealer in TJ? or near the border?

Geno's

Every time I think I've seen what info is on Geno's site - I see a link to a page I've not seen - Eric

TTaylor - Did you do the translation on that? Impressed!

The listed GVWR is 7711 Kg - So the Ram 4000 has a (x2. 204) 16,995 Lb GVWR.

And the American 3500 is 10,800#?

Coming to find out, the Ram 4000 is the same exact chassis as our Ram 3500 4wd. The only thing different is the dana 60 front axle vs. a piece of pipe for the axle. Their safety standards are not as limited as ours, therefore

they can rate the 4000 higher than our 3500.

As for the 6500 and 7000, why? I mean, why would you make such a vehicle so under powered with substandard braking. First of all, they are losing power from the aircompressor on the 5. 7l hemiLess-torqueLess monster. Second, they require a larger cooling system, which isn't bad, but they need a larger fan, belts and drive sheaves. The fan alone robbs so much power because of the cfms required for the cooling system. I bet that thing gets really good gas milage ! Enough on the power, lets talk about the wheels. Nice??? maybe back in 1950! Not to many people use the split rims anymore and those wheels don't exactly have any "bling-bling", as some folks would call it. If you can align those wheels when you change them, good on you, because I can't! Those wheels are very difficult to align because of lug design. Well, I guess its just designed to roll and it does.

I guess it just bugs how other countries can mess up a truck or anything for that matter and copyrights don't phase them. In a way I'm glad they don't have CTD in them, because that is exclusively for us. Unless, other countries respect our copyrights and pay their dues to US-of-A then they deserve Cummins Power!

Sorry guys, its only my opinion :( . No pun intended.

I don't know, as I understand it dealers are few and far between in Mexico. One of my shop guys ordered and paid for a set for me when he went down for Christmas a few years ago but didn't get back in time before they sent them back. So I'm out the money and the emblems. I'm told they work a bit "different" down there, no refunds? I dunno, that's what I was told anyway.

I don't think it's the country building them, it's Dodge. They build and sell alot of trucks for consumers down there. I think it stinks that Dodge builds some neat versions for Mexico and they can't do a little extra engineering so we could buy them here... For example, I've seen several 2nd gen Ramchargers running around here with Mexican plates. It's a really neat looking vehicle and I'm sure they would have sold alot of 'em here in the U. S.

#1 anything bigger than a nissan pickup in mexico with 40 chicken cages tied to it is considered heavy duty. Ever been south of Sonora?

#2 the vehicles equipment packages south of the border are usually nothing more than emblems, no drivetrain upgrades. (we seem to be following the trend more and more).

If it says "rancho", "lobo" or higher numerically than the common vehiclefor sale, they get top dollar for it.

The diesels from Texas are cheaper for them to import into Mexico than what they can buy them for domestically. Ever here about the "Chocolate's" from the north? It refers to US imported vehicles going to live a second life south of the border. Why buy a diesel in Mexico when they can get it half price and import it?
