These pictures show how they are not supposed to be when turned to the right. In the article that was with the pictures, described how to do the adjusting through the linkage and maybe save the ball joint and be safe.

It amazes me there is still so much confusion over this and I blame Chrysler for not properly informing everyone. The root cause of the problem is the engineering compromise Chrysler made to switch to the T type linkage. Arguably a better way to do it would be to have a separate steering link from the pitman arm to a second hole on the passenger side steering knuckle. Many older vehicles do this. Chrysler decided to keep the same steering knuckle and attach the steering link to the tie rod itself. Of course this will try to twist tie rod so their answer was to make the right side tie rod end with a slot to resist rotation from the steering link. So now the right tie rod allows no front to back movement which makes the left tie rod adjustment uber critical. Between the TSBs, recalls, the damage to their reputation and probably lawsuits, one has to wonder if they really saved anything in the long run rather than doing it the better way.

Mlee, I trust you noticed that the lead weight is missing from your inside wheel weight.

Glad you noticed, BUT----this is not MY truck. These photos are from a few years back when this problem was first noticed, and was uploaded for people to check out there trucks tie rods and the IMproper alignment that the ball joint was NOT supposed to be in. The tie rod and stud are supposed to be VERTICAL, no angle, when turned. With this alignment the ball and the stud are under tremendous torque in a turn and this is what causes the failure, and lose of steering. ( mine is a 95) but thanks anyway.
I don't have the article now but it described how to re-align the parts and give the parts a longer life and maybe a little safer.

Might I suggest looking into joining the Dodge Owners Website and if and when they have a recall, they send you an email or you can check anytime by putting in your VIN.
I was notified of my recalls from there and allowed me to follow through on repairs.

Site address is: https://www.moparownerconnect.com/oc/US/en-us/sub/Pages/OwnersLogin.aspx

There is also a Federal website if you want that avenue. They cover all vehicles and products sold in the US.

Went in on this web site and entered my VIN and the recall popped up for my vehicle steering, guess i'll be making a trip to the dealer, Monte

This recall can be done DYE from everyone that knows just little about mechanic.

Just check out that both tierod ends are at the same angle, they need to be inline with each other and then everything is fine.

A thirty seconds recall.

This is why I hate Lord Dodge. Love the Cummins, curse the Chrysler. Similar love/hate relationship with my truck.
I wanted the simplicity and rigidity of a solid axle truck, and Dodge couldn't even get that right. A guy shouldn't have to spend big $$ on a low mileage HD pickup to make it live up to being called 'Heavy Duty'.

I agree with you algonaman.

Truth is, I'm ****** at all the manufactures.
The only reason I have my '06, it has that big 'C' on the fender.
Over 40 years ago I drove a rig and that old Cummins NEVER let me down.
Outside of that, I would probably own some cheap throughway gasser and call it a day.

I never had the origional recal done, wonder if they will still do it?

If you don't make a call and get it started, you'll never get it.

I had a 1/2 ton Toyota that I found a recall on and was never notified of. I made a call, they set up an appointment and took care of the issue. No charge since it was a recall. With the possible liability they could have by not contacting you or taking care of it once you found out, they should be happy to address it.

I got my recall notice in the mail last week. The number for the recall I have is N49/NHTSA 13V-529. The card says to contact your local dealer after January 6, 2014.

I contacted my local dealer early to try and get an appointment, but I got nothing but lip service. They told me my recall was completed 2 years ago. Anyways. I'll try again after the 6th and see if anything has improved.
