Dodge Ram Truck Production - Can't Keep Up With Demand

A source close to someone who ranks high at DC told me today that Dodge truck production is working round the clock to keep up with demand. I don't know if it's a real situation, since I see plenty of Rams in the dealer lots, but if it is I doubt there will be any good incentives in the future. This kind of bums me out because I have Mrs Doc talked into getting a Dodge/Cummins when the 2004s come out.

Yep, I heard they hired 1200 more people on the truck line to try and keep up with demand.

So far, I haven't seen a single one with a Cummins in it on the dealer's lot in Eureka. All of them on the lot are gassers. I guess he doesn't have the diesels in long enuff to park them out in the lot.

Just happened to notice some Black 03' duallies at one of the dealers I go by. Good thing I was on the four lane and could not stop. That new paint/interior smell can be inticing. I better get up in the morning and spray some paint on my engine or something

I bought mine 6-8 weeks before my local dealer got his first HD on the lot, didn't last long. He sells near List and they still move out quickly.....



Awhh, this really sucks, MY 3500 SRW LB CTD HO 4X4 isn't the ONLY 3500 SRW LB CTD HO 4X4 in town anymore, and they used MY color too



But I've got more Mud on my truck, bigger smile on my face, cash left in my pocket



The dealer I bought mine from chatted that he thinks he may run into an allocation problem soon and is also selling near list every time too.

Who's buying these trucks? Hardly see any half tons or heavy's on the road. Every body says the new body style is ugly.

I wouldn't mind a Hemi in a 1/2 ton.

Dodge is currently offering a $1000 incentive on 2003 Ram 2500 & 3500's, from 11/2 through 12/4.

I think production hasn't been able to meet the initial stocking requirements for the dealers. Not due to 03's selling like hotcakes. Our local dealer has about 8 on the lot and most have been there close to 2 mos. I only know of 1 which they sold.

I don't think I'd wait for the '04 models, as they will be the Beta models for the government mandated Exhaust Gas Recirculator on the Cummins.



Have you seen the article in the latest TDR on the Volkswagen with the EGR??

Doesn't look like very much longevity for those engines breathing their own crap again!

Ever notice that on their TV ads you rarly if ever see a commercial for the Cummins engine. All they seem to show are the gassers. IE Hemis and V10s. Rarly if ever the Cummins. I guese they dont want to admit someone else builds a better engine than DC. Or they make more money if they sell a vehicle with their own engine rather than one bought from someone else.

WyoSteve, I believe the reason our local stealer has a few '03's on the lot and they're not moving is because they way over price their vehicles and don't negotiate much either. Several people have told me this, and I've been by when I was looking for mine. A close friend wanted to order a Dakota in 2000 and they were priced $6000 higher for the exact same truck than the dealer in Laramie and the dealer in Fort Collins. I think these guys stay in business from the locals that don't want to travel a bit to get a better deal and/or these people don't do their homework before buying. I haven't personally ever bought a new truck and probably never will. It's way too easy to find a used one where the first owner just used it to tool around town pickin up groceries and such, put 40-50k on the od, then trade it off for the next best thing. Saving me at least $10k. Just my 2 rubels.

Tpc, I aqree with you. I would never even try and buy a truck from them. Past reputation is that they were crooks and it continues. Really surprised they have been able to stay in business with all the dealers within 100 miles that will treat a person much better. I'm with you on the new vs. used issue. Except I had to buy my 01 new since it is the HO w/ 6 spd. and they weren't available used at the time. Got it from Fremont Motors and was satisfied. Not a steal, but a better price than the Gillette dealer would do on a 5 spd. Sport. How's the horses likin the new trailer. I'm heading to Neb. the end of the month to look at another pair of mules.

The new trailer is working out great. I think we got a lot of trailer for the $$$. The truck pulls it nice, though I'd like to have a bit more power. A good friend has a mule, honery as they come. Other than they are smarter, stronger, more sure footed, and eat less than horses, I can't figure why somebody would want one!

Production is behind, my brother works for DC and he has been working 6 and 7 days. They are putting on another shift around December so it will be around the clock.

He has driven a 1500 with a Hemi. The only thing he said was, someone is going to get hurt in this truck, very, very fast.

Diesel or gas, doesn't matter. Both are selling like hotcakes around here.



Went to the movies last night, noticed a former customer loading up 3 couples in his new Diesel CC. And you're right... they are DANG quiet, especially when warm.

that is for models built in the year 2004. if you buy an early 2004 that is build in 2003, it will pretty much be a 2003 ram, with a 2004 designation

why dont they call them what they are? extended cabs with conventional opening doors I wouldnt buy one on a bet!
